CHAPTER 1

Once upon a time there was a princess, a very beautiful princess named Bess. She had (Y/H/L) (Y/H/C) hair and pretty (Y/E/C) eyes.
One day the princess went to the palace garden. It was the most beautiful garden ever. It had flowers everywhere the eyes could see: roses, tulips, lilies, bluebells. It was an explosion of colors and life that’s why the princess loved spending her days out there, surrounded by magnificent smells.
As the princess walked towards the middle of the garden it felt like she ended up in a forest because there were majestic trees rising into the blue skyù obscuring the sunlight. And in the middle of the woods there was a pond.
Stones were placed all around the edge of the pond so no one could fall in, but Bess would always climb up the stones and sit at the very top of it.
Everyone warned her not to climb up there cause it was dangerous, but she never listened to them and climbed up there anyway. The reason why she wouldn't listen is because the best view was from the very top. Seated up there the princess could see through the trees the village roofs that bordered the palace. She had alway been forbidden to leave her home and that’s why the princess was content to see the world among the leaves of the trees.
She would climb up the stones in her pink ball gown and sit there with a small brown notebook and a charcoal pencil. She would draw the pond, the lilly pads on the pond, the roofs of the houses in the village, the deer who would come and drink from the pond.
All the fawns and their mamas would come and drink from the pond all while the princess would draw.
Once in a while there would be a fox or some squirrels who would come to look at who was that strange human in pink sitting by their pond and the princess would draw them as well.
On the day she forgot to bring her notebook she would sing. And one day of those days the princess sat high up on the stones in her pink ball gown as usul and she sang the most beautiful song she had ever sung.
Unknown to the princess there was a maiden walking the woods. She was not rich as the princess nor was she as beautiful.
She had tangled red hair and shining green eyes, she wore a simple cream dresses covered in stains and torn, she was barefooted and had a brown cape with the hood up over her mangled hair she had been walking through the woods in search of flowers with a small tan basket in hands.
She heard a beautiful voice of someone singing and followed that mesmerizing sound. Until she came upon the pod and she distracted herself admiring the flowers that were all around her. She went to pick some of the most gaudy, but the princess had spotted her “Young maiden.” Bess called from her spot on the stone.
The maiden looked up before lowering her head quickly as soon as she recognized the woman as princess Bess (Y/L/N). That's because it was against the rule to look the Royals in the eyes, for the servants. The princess looked at the maiden confused as she had never left her room if not to go to the garden, and during these little shifts she had never met anyone.
The princess called her again, “Young maiden, why do you look down?” She asked. The simple maiden replied “It is forbidden to look at royals from the palace”.
“But we are not in the palace now, no one will know.” the princess replied “Look up at me please maiden. For I am no higher in class than you.”
The maiden shuffled her feet before looking up towards the princess, her eyes covered by her hood. The maiden was shocked by the princess's words, no one had ever been that gentle to her, especially the royal family.
The maiden looked at the princess stunned by her beauty. “Devochka (girl/maiden), show me your pretty eyes.” The princess requested. The maiden lowered her hood slowly, ashamed of her shabby aspect. For a moment the princess breath seemed to hitch looking at the maiden. On the contrary of what the maiden thought, the princess saw her as the most beautiful and fascinating girl ever. And the princess wanted to convince the maiden of that too.
“You are beautiful, my maiden” the princess said.
Those simple words were enough for the maiden to change her mind about the princess. And in that precise moment she realized that her hate for the princess was no longer there, it has been replaced by another strong feeling that the maiden wasn't able to recognize.
