"good morning!"
mei makes her appearance with a bright smile on the gloomy wednesday morning. her footsteps were loud compared to the quiet atmosphere of the class. her peers greet her with a small good morning or a smile as she walked by. xiangling and chongyun, her two best friends high-fived her as she walked by them with a smile on their face. the blonde-haired student makes her way to her boyfriend of four months who was engrossed in his book titled legend of the shattered halberd, volume five. she quietly knocks on his table to get his attention.
knock knock.
a small smile came to her lips as he looked up to her with a smile of his own.
"good morning, my liege." the blue-haired student said, putting down his book before reaching for his other half's hands. he placed his soft lips on the back of her hand, making the girl's heart flutter. a light blush crept up to her face as she looked away from being embarrassed, muttering a small good morning. xingqiu chuckled before letting go of her hand and resuming his reading.
mei quietly takes a seat beside him as he flips the pages of his book. putting down her bag and taking her books, it wasn't long until the bell rang, indicating the start of the class. she sighs quietly as she took a glance at her boyfriend, who was still reading his most favorite series. the teacher came to class not long after, and xingqiu was forced to resume his reading for later on. a disappointed groan came from him as he put his beloved book away while his girlfriend got her class materials ready as well.

half of the day passed by quickly, and it was lunch. mei's stomach growled loudly as their teacher left. she quickly cleaned up her desk and fixed her cardigan before inviting xingqiu to lunch. she poked him lightly, making his attention divert to her instead of his chemistry notebook and textbook which he was in the middle of taking them out from his white-colored backpack. mei eyed the said books on his hands, before meeting his eyes and smiling lightly.
"wanna have lunch?" mei asked.
"i haven't finished the chem homework we had, so you go on ahead." xingqiu apologized while holding up the two books which earned a pout from his girlfriend. she was about to argue with him for not finishing his homework instead of reading but she was interrupted by a certain blonde-haired boy who opened the classroom door. they looked to the door to find, aether, another student from the neighboring class whom mei met in the library once.
"hey guys, do you wanna get lunch?" aether pointed his thumb to the door behind him, "chongyun and xiangling are waiting outside."
mei looked to xingqiu's golden orbs again and sighed defeatedly since arguing with him will get them nowhere. she nodded to aether and stood up, dusting her uniform's skirt, and walked towards the braided student. she looked back to her boyfriend and said, "i'll bring you some bread and milk when I get back," before leaving him alone in the empty classroom.

"what's his excuse this time?"
mei, xiangling, chongyun, and aether all sat down at one table in the corner of the cafeteria. the loud sounds of the student's chatters and gossips filled the room. it was much more lively than the atmosphere of the classroom, with cheery laughs and bright smiles everywhere.
"he said he didn't finish the chem homework we have," mei sighed defeatedly before taking a bite of her food, "i told him i'll bring him something to snack on though."
she stared at the food in front of her while the trio exchanged worried glances. they know it hasn't been the first time xingqiu denied lunch because of schoolwork that he didn't finish the night before. they know mei is worried for him, after all, she is his girlfriend.
"maybe you should drag him here next time," aether suggested while patting your back lightly. a chorus of agreements came from the other two who were seated in across them.
"or take away his book!" xiangling said, with a mouthful of food in her mouth, which she proceeded to chew quickly before swallowing and continued, "it's bad to skip meals too much."
"i don't know how you're still willing to waste your money to buy him food." chongyun added. he drank his iced water and said, "i would've let him starve."
a frustrated sigh escaped from the dirty blonde-haired girl who was pulling at the ends of her hair. her lunch money was decreasing more quickly ever since she dated xingqiu from buying snacks from him. sometimes she even owes money to her three friends if she doesn't have enough to buy him food. she would always text him as a reminder to eat every day during weekends when they can't meet.
"his love for books is too enormous, sometimes even i question him if he loves me or his books more." mei said.
"his answer?" xiangling, chongyun, and aether asked simultaneously.
"he said he loves me more," she answered with a frown on her face as she poked on her food with her fork, "but always goes back to reading again after he says that."
frustrated groans and defeated sighs were heard all around the table. aether slapped his forehead, xiangling emitted a small groan while chongyun looked to the side with his arms crossed. everyone was tired of xingqiu's antics and ignorance.
"mei, you should just break up with him. he's hurt you way too much." chongyun quietly said, to which mei stayed quiet at the statement. nobody talked after that and the table's atmosphere became quiet. suddenly, mei stood up, bringing her finished food tray with her.
"where are you going?" aether asked.
she smiled sadly, "i have a boyfriend to take care of. see you guys later."
she waved before disappearing into the crowd of students, quickly putting her empty tray in a trolley filled with other dirty and empty trays before going to the school store. she bought strawberry milk and plain bread and went back to her classroom, to which she found xingqiu finishing up his delayed chem homework.
he looked up to the sound of the classroom door opening and sent his beloved girlfriend a smile. she sent a small smile back to him as she approached his table. the girl with the pink cardigan put down the snacks she purchased to his table before going back to her own.
"thank you, love." xingqiu thanked her with a hug before diving into his food.
mei could only smile and blink as no words came out of her mouth. she hugged him back and let go for him to be able to eat. she put her left palm on her cheek as she stared at him as he ate. a small sigh came from her before diverting her attention to the whiteboard in front of her as she waited for another class to begin.
