The warm summer sun seeped through the clouds like the curtains I had at home, this was the best way to wake up, there was no doubt about that. I sat up and untied the rope round my waist that had secured me to the tree while sleeping. I looked down to the branch below me to see Rhydian deep in slumber. 'Right' I thought to myself 'better wake him up.'
"Come on sleepy wake up, early start," I said while climbing down the tree to the solid earth.
"Hmm?" Was all Rhydian's reply. "Oh right I'm up one second." He sat up and began to cut his rope with a carving knife.
"Why? Your ruining perfectly good rope by cutting it, you could be gentler and untie it." I suggested casually, I knew he was tired but why ruin our few recourses?
"Good point but where we'll get some more soon, come on," he loosened the rope and threw it down to me, I caught the two rough pieces and placed them into my bag.
"Right and how will we get se more exactly, make it?" I stated rather sarcastically.
"You'll see, come on," he insisted while climbing down the tree and hopping down onto the luscious green grass, "just stay close and don't wander off..." that was all he insisted before he started to wonder off.
"Why where are we going?!" I asked in a nagging tone, my life was in Rhydian's hands and to be honest, I felt completely safe, but I couldn't help but feel like he was leading me into danger. I did truly trust him but there was apart of me that was still weary of him and told me to stay away.
It was a quiet but tiring journey, nothing happened it was quite, boring. We walked for miles on end till the souls of my feet hurt. There came a point when I had almost lost it, my feet ached, my legs were giving up on me and the bag on my shoulders rubbed. "Can we please take a rest, please, just for a second, just to rejuvenate myself." I questioned slowing down and pulling my messy hair behind my ear.
"Just a bit further now, don't worry Dawn were almost there, for me?" He carried on walking like I was just a voice in his head.
"I- I literally can't take another step, I need to rest please Rhydian!" I begged stopping altogether.
"Come on Dawn don't give up now, we're almost there trust me," he turned round and looked at me in the eye, they were soft and kind but forceful and stubborn, why was he in such a rush to get there? Was he actually the enemy?! Did he want me to to be weak and tired when I got there so I couldn't put up a fight? 'No calm Dawn' I told myself 'the only evil people out there are the legion and him, the nightwalker... so stop worrying he's probably wanting you to get there before dark so you can get a well earned rest.' I was too busy in my thoughts that I didn't notice Rhydian grab my hand and entwine our fingers, he then pulled me along gently, he made me jump so much it sent shivers down my spine! Unwillingly I tagged along quietly still deep in thought about what was going to happen when we got there.
"Look, you said you wouldn't move if you could help it as I can't afford to get where we want to be in the dark, so I pulled you along," stated Rhydian slightly shakily, why did he not want to arrive in the dark?
"What's wrong about arriving in the dark?" I asked rather unsure of myself.
"Look I can't say yet there's no time I'll tell you when we arrive." He articulated while weaving his way through the trees, it had been a whole back now since we had parted from the path and I honestly preferred it that way, it was freer without a path like you could tread on any ground without worry.
"Um ok if you insist," I murmured hoping we were almost there I don't think my legs would allow much more use.
The sun was beginning to fall behind the horizon and a dazzling sunset had spread throughout the sky, I could already feel Rhydian's grip tighten and his pace increase, he was worried about something I just knew it but what?
"Almost there now Dawn just round here," we passed a large tree and a small medieval village came into view, elegant vines climbed up the side of buildings and all the houses were thatched this place was lovely.
"See I told you we were almost here, take in the view for a few seconds," his voice was calm and peaceful, all of my worries seemed to flood away when I looked at this place. One of the buildings caught my attention the most, it was a mill house, small and old it was absolutely gorgeous! "Come on to the inn now!" He insisted beckoning me to follow him, so I did. We ended up outside of this stone building, that was fairly large and had a small courtyard filled with blossomed flowers, beautiful aromas circulated the air, this place was amazing. "Come on this is the inn I'll get you a room of you own," stated Rhydian out of the blue.
"Don't worry, I have money I'll pay for my own room." I insisted walking up to a hand carved desk where a women was standing behind sorting out the hearth.
"I'm two rooms please," said Rhydian quickly before I had chance to speak, that little, I'll get him back one day.
"Ok love that'll be 20 gold coins please," the woman's voice was bland and dry kind of like her appearance. He was ginger and wore a long tatty brown dress covered by a dirty white pinafore, she had a feisty but loving look about her that would make you get on your knees and pray if you were in a fight against her. Rhydian gave her the money and I unwillingly thanked him, "follow me darlins' this way," we followed her up a rickety old staircase and onto a uneven landing "This is your room lad in here, staying the night right both of you?" We both nodded our heads and she let out a sigh of relief, "good I was worried I undercharged you, runnin low on money these days, I do anything to get money with the kings taxes going up and all, this is your room love, sleep tight give us a shout if you need anything." she said and soon disappeared down the staircase into the loud noise of the bar.
"Night Rhydian," I said giving him a hug and waking into my room.
"Night, wait before you go I've got something to show you tomorrow, just have a sleep on what it is night," at that he walked into his room closing his door behind him.
I quickly slipped off my dirty clothes and slid on a clean warm nightdress, what surprise, I guess I would find out tomorrow. slowly I snuggled under the bed and fell into a well earned slumber.-=END OF CHAPTER=-
