"Dawn..." It's voice echoed against the walls, I could feel my body tense as the footsteps came closer and closer until...
"Ahhhh!" I cried as the nearby window shattered into a million pieces knocking me back and scattering all over the cluttered room.
The skylight dazzling above us fogged over causing the room to grow dark and unfriendly. The familiar footsteps grew large as they thumped heavily upon the scratched wooden floor, the metal chains strung around the leather clattered as he began to walk, the darkness was human, this gave me the upper hand, I crouched lower behind the piles of books as I heard yells from the other side, I tried to move but my body had just seized and I fell to the floor helpless and feeling very vulnerable.
"Come on spill," I heard the dreaded voice hiss, subtly I twitched my fingers and grabbed the bow that had been thrown out of my hand when the window had shattered all over the floor. I slid across the floor to where a small gap was and peeked through the piles of mess.
I could see a pair of scratched old leather boots who I presumed belonged to Rhydian, they were still but ever so slightly shaking. I scrambled closer and forced my eyes to look around the broken room.
Everything was just a piles of what was once beautiful objects. My eyes gazed round the room yet further to see a pair of bare, pale feet that hovered ever so slightly above the floor.
Uncle Tunde!
"Where is she," hissed the voice I knew all too well. He was stronger than I had ever known him to be, human, yet real. Real enough to inflict damage, something I hated.
This is why I ran, this is why I isolated myself, non of this would have happened if I had just left alone! Anger surged inside me as I sat there useless and weak, the frosty breath of the monster grew heavier sending shivers down my spine. Where he stood there was a thin, fragile ring of smoke surrounding him like some sort of angel... An angel from hell.
I slowly balanced myself as I stood up clasping the bow tighter in my grasp. "Let him go!" I yelled standing there all collected, my face emotionless. That was the first time I saw him... The nightwalker, a human, like me! His long blonde hair flopped over his piercing blue eyes, his fair skin was soft and untouched. It was almost ghostly, the way he looked. He was tall and thin but that was no real shock to me as he was always running. He turned towards me so he could glare into my deep blue eyes, I could feel them boring into me, like he was trying to bring back the connection that seemed long gone. I forced a small smirk to spread over my face as I glared back at him, that moment I noticed the uncertainty in his eyes that showed weakness. I was too strong.
"I said let him go, dear friend," I hissed making his pale face turn even paler.
"Let him go, ok," he muttered dumbly letting go of the old man, uncle Tunde fell to the floor in a heap his tattered robes collected round his body wrapping him in the rich cloth. "Oh and I go by Thorne, thanks for the name you inventive little child." He explained in a patronising tone. I rolled my eyes and stepped forward over the piles of books scattered on the floor. Out of the corner of my eyes I noticed Rhydian hurriedly rush over to uncle Tunde helping him up and bringing him over to the corner of the room where he gently laid his weak body upon the toppled bookcase. When he saw me his face fell and his eyes peeled open wide.
"No! DAWN! Don't he'll kill you!" Cried Rhydian clutching his sword and pulling it out from his side, the metal clanging with the case.
"It's fine, I'm ok, he can't hurt me, I control him after all," I stated calmly my eyes flickering from Rhydian's worried face to Thorne's. "So if I were you is get out now," I spat out through gritted teeth my fist clenched into tight balls of anger.
"I agree with the boy don't do it, run! But no matter what I'll kill you," Thorne seethed as he stood tense in the cluttered room like he wouldn't move, no words were needed to how his actions; it was already visible. I let out a little sigh and subtly drew out my dagger, quickly I held it high and aimed...
It hit him in one shot right through the chest, as it did so I could feel his pain course through my body. The only thing that tricked me though was when the dagger pierced his skin, he just puffed into black smoke, I guess even in human form he was still almost invincible. Rhydian stared at me blankly in pure horror and amazement at what I had just done. The fear of his returning trickled though my body knowing we had to leave there and then.
I wiped a stray year from my emotionless face and started to tidy the room, lifting bookcases placing stuff in piles out the way so it wouldn't be a problem. In less than an hour the room was tidy and all my stuff was set by the door.
I stared at uncle Tunde his pain stricken face baring a small smile. He looked at our clothes then back over to one of the ripped armchairs were a pile of fresh unworn clothes lay. "I see your clothes have lasted well," he stated looking at Rhydian's old grey cloak which he bore around his shoulders.
"Yes these clothes have lasted very well since the last time I had arrived in the old capital of Urbum. That had to be at least 4 years ago," stated Rhydian glancing down at his frayed top and playing with the edge. I gazed down to mine and saw the stains and holes of which my top consisted of.
"Right then," he sighed and he pulled a face of pain as he hobbled over to where the nice untouched clothes lay. He picked them up, inspected them then hobbled back over to us. Forcefully he pushed them into our arms, "here, go change before you leave. The weather shall only get colder and wetter, the days are growing short and I'm afraid those clothes of yours won't do. Especially yours Rhydian, there's one to many holes for even your cloak to hide." Uncle Tunde chuckled slightly as he grabbed Rhydian's arm and dragged him into the other room. They started whispering but soon closed the door hesitantly, normally curiosity would get the better of me but this time I decided to just pester Rhydian later and change into these new, rich, untouched clothes. As I tried them on they seemed to shrink to fit my body, I guess they were enchanted. I gazed around the havoc stricken room looking at the ripped curtains blowing in the wind from the smashed window, only just now had I noticed the skylight had defogged and was now as clear as day. It lit the destroyed room up giving a warm and homely feeling along with the small fire which had now almost completely vanished, the tiles surrounding it which had once been clean had now grown black and aged. Everything I saw sounded horrible and ruined but in uncle Tunde's house it added character  showing another thing we succeeded in.
Quietly I slumped down into the chair waiting for both Rhydian and uncle Tunde to show their faces from behind the splintered oak door. Curiosity was slowly consuming me as I heard the mixed mutters coming from the other room, what was so important that they couldn't tell me?
