“Yes, I’ve just pulled up at her place. What’s going on?”
“I can’t be with Holly……I’m in love with someone else”
“Yes, she said……but why are you calling me?”
“It’s you! I can’t be with Holly because I’ve fallen in love with you!”
In an instant all the times with Matt flashed before me…..the times he’d laughed at my jokes, the times I’d seen him looking at me, when he “bumped into me” at the gym…..fuck!
All those times I thought he was being friendly because I was Holly’s best friend now seemed flirty……he’d been flirting with me for weeks and I hadn’t noticed.
I was busy flirting with Harry….busy fucking his best mate, busy falling in love with his best mate…
“I can’t do this right now Matt! You’ve broken my friends heart and I need to console her, I’ll call you later.”
I hung up on him as Holly opened her door. Her eyes were bright red. I could see she’d been crying for a while.
Walking into her place I hugged my best friend tight, let her know I was there for her, that only she mattered.
“What are you wearing!” she exclaimed
Looking down at myself I realised in my haste to get dressed and get over to Holly I’d put in Harry’s t-shirt and not my own.
“This old thing? I’ve had it ages.” Had this been normal circumstances I know she would have quizzed me further.
I spent 2 hours with Holly, telling her what an arsehole Matt was, how dare he do this to her…… I couldn’t bring myself to tell her he’d called me and confessed his love for me or that I was secretly meeting with Harry and that Harry and I were in love….
I felt awful that I was so in love and she’d just been dumped…..
Leaving Holly’s I felt just as drained as she looked. I couldn’t be honest with Holly but I needed to be honest with Harry, even if was now super late. Luckily Harry was still up and I burst into tears.
“She’s so upset” I cried
“Matts called me” he said putting his arms around me.
“So he’s told you? You didn’t tell him about us did you?” I rested my hair on his chest and listened to his soothing heart beat.
“Yes, he told me but I didn’t say anything about us, figured we needed to decide how were going to sort this together.”
Harry held me as tight as I was holding him.
I stayed over Harry’s and luckily it was now the weekend….the time we were all meant to hang out together, I should be with Holly but really wanted to spend the day with Harry, if we were going to tell Holly and Matt that we were seeing each other we needed to be sure.
I woke before Harry so went and sat in the lounge and sent Holly a message.

At least I didn’t have to let Holly or Harry down today and could concentrate on Harry and I.
My phone beeped and I thought it was Holly again but it was Matt.

I didn’t know what else to say. Harry and I decided I should just tell Matt that I’m not into him like that….
