"Did yall know that a group of hippos is called a bloat?", Wade blurted out.
"Why would we have a need to know what a group of hippos is called?", questioned Sophie unimpressed, clearly done with the 70th stupid fact of the day with Wade.
We are sitting at lunch, having nothing better to do, so Wade googled "100 stupid facts" and is now dramatically presenting those to us. The only thing that I find amusing out of this is Sophie's facial expressions. They move from confusion all the way to anger.
"Yeah, this is boring. Let's do something fun.", he begged.
"Oh, are we doing something fun now?", an excited looking Dante sat down on the chair next to mine. "I am all in."
"Hello to you too, stranger.", I mock.
"Hello, my dear friend. You know, you've missed quite a show on the race. Nico lost for the first time", he explains. I'm supposed to act interested while he gives me brief details over what happened, so I act like I haven't been in the race. Like I haven't actually been the person who beat him.
It's been a week since I won against Dominico. He hasn't been in school since it. I'm curious about what happened, but don't really care enough to ask. Another race's coming up in three days, but I won't be racing, and neither will Dominico or whoever managed to get third place. We are supposed to just watch the race to see more of our opponents for the next races, but since no one apart from my friends knows who Petal is, I won't be attending it.
I don't like to go to races when I'm not the one racing. There are a lot of bad people that come to watch and bet on who will win in those races and I do not want to get on someone's bad side. I can get a bit antsy at those too, so I don't go unless I have to.
That could even be the reason I don't show my face, I don't want to be known amongst the people from the underground. The danger is not worth it.
"There's another race in like three days I think. Dominico won't be racing since he has secured second place, but he has to show up and watch them race or something, I don't really know. He won't come, per usual, so as a nice person I am, I'm asking, begging, you to come with me."
"And what do I get if I actually go.", I ask. I said it before I even thought about it, mentally cringing over the fact that now I can't say no to him. I've dug myself into a deep hole.
"I don't know, apart from my amazing presence, you get free food and drinks.", he replies.
"Have I heard free food?", Wade joins our conversation.
"Amazing, you're coming with us too.", announced Dante, earning a silent scoff from me. "You too, Sophie." Now that the whole gang is coming I'll somehow drag Mia and Callan with us. The more people the merrier.
"Tell me something about the people racing, I literally have no idea about who is racing.", I act stupid but actually have no clue about racers when I'm not the one that's in the car.
"Well, it's not a big race, there is another new driver from Hermosa Beach if I'm correct. His name is Frederick Davis...", he continues explaining who the guy is, but I zone out, already knowing who the guy is.
Frederick Davis goes by Fred, a German motherfucker who moved from there when he was 17 with his older brother Axel. The two of them literally scream trouble. I've raced against him a few times, and he plays dirty. He's in it for the money, but he wants it probably the most out of everyone so he does a lot of risky shit to win.
