Liam had stood up during his second and third songs, moving around on stage and owning his space. He was killing it with the crowd, and it became more than obvious he was the main reason they were all here. There were many shrieking women, thrilled to be given a glance by him. Their reactions made me feel like we were attending a full-blown concert and not just a small set by a local. But I couldn't blame them.
He was dressed in dark denim jeans and a black fitted muscle shirt showing off his tattooed bicep and muscular chest. He wore a silver chain necklace tucked into his shirt causing a certain allure. His hair was disheveled more than earlier now that he had been running his hand through it as he worked the stage and his guitar. But it wasn't just the women fawning over him, because it wasn't just his looks that had this place packed. Liam was talented enough, that he could actually be on a stage one day with millions of fans.
I suddenly wondered what he was studying at the University of Georgia, when he was this damn talented at singing. I could tell he was really enjoying it too. Since running into him, I've barely seen Liam. I've seen L.J., the man whore on campus with a major attitude problem. But here, in this moment with him on stage, there wasn't any doubt he was my Liam again.
As his third song came to an end and the applause died down, he pushed his acoustic guitar to his hip and grabbed the microphone. "Thank you. I've really enjoyed playing for you guys tonight. There's, uh, one more song I have for you. It's one I haven't performed publicly yet." Several shouts and hollers broke across the room in anticipation. He smirked, grabbing both sides of the mic now. "This song is pretty special to me. I wrote it a long time ago. I think it's time you heard it."
Liam grabbed the microphone stand, adjusting it lower as he moved his guitar and brought it back in front of him. Sitting down on the stool, he cleared his throat before looking back up, his eyes instantly locking on mine. A jolt of electricity shot through me, causing my breathing to completely stop as he started playing. His eyes stayed on mine a moment longer before breaking contact, the lyrics falling so smoothly from his mouth.
Would you believe me if I said
These thoughts in my head
Scream the loudest at night
When my dreams take flight
Because birds remind me of what I had?I stare at the bottom of that glass
Wondering why nothing ever lasts
'Cause holding on too tight causes it to shatter
It always shatters...Like the stars in the sky
Our wishes always went to the fireflies
Drunk on nothing but magic lights,
Laughter filled the night.
Now I'm afraid to close my eyes'Cause would you believe me if I said
These thoughts in my head
Scream the loudest at night
When my dreams take flight
Because birds remind me of what I had?I was too young to understand
Thinking I couldn't lose what I never had
'Cause how can you lose what you never had?
But birds are meant to take flight
Just like those promises were meant to make things right
