Chapter 1: The Beginning
“We’re here with Finella Snow, and we’re talking about her debut album ‘Cascade’. How are you this morning?” The radio host asks me. When walking up this morning to come to this early ass morning show, I decided that I hate being on morning shows.
“I am very tired,” I answer with a laugh, “how are you?”
“I'm good! Now tell me about ‘Cascade’.” He says, leaning towards me.
“Well,” I start, “all the songs on ’Cascade’ were written in the time span of about a week. The songs were somewhat inspired by the downfall of a relationship and when you really start to become disillusioned with the idea of romance.”
“Well, could you put that in smaller words for us?” The DJ asks with a laugh.
“Break up songs.” I put simply and we laugh.
“I can tell you personally that I’ve listened to the album, and I think it’s just remarkable. Now let me ask you, were you the dumper or the dumpee?” He asks. I feel a little twinge in my stomach, doesn’t matter how long ago it was, it’s still hard to talk about.
“I would say it was,” nervous laugh, “a mutual thing.”
“Oh c’mon it’s never a mutual thing. Why, the last girl I dated, we had-“
“He dumped me.” I say quickly. While prepping to come on this show, my manager told me not to let him ramble off and waste time that could be used on me.”
“What?!” The DJ asks largely, obviously being a caricature rather than himself, “Who would dump you? You’re pretty, talented and you seem pretty smart.” He says with a mock largeness.
“I guess we just didn’t click.” I bark out nervously, rubbing the growing spot on anxiety on the back of my neck.
“Okay, if you say so. Moving on, you’ve developed yourself quite a fanbase in the month or so since you’ve released your album. You’ve ever got a name for your fans?”
“Yeah, my fans are amazing and calling them fans sounds so formal and affected and I appreciate them much more than that. They’re my Fins, and I need them to keep on swimming.” I tell him and a rim shot is played.
“Speaking of your Fins, we’ve got some questions from them. Now listeners, you’ve tweeted and posted on our Facebook, so here is Finella Snow answering your questions. Ready?”
“Ready.”
“Okay first question comes from @JessieFinFin, and she asks, ‘How do you write your songs?’ and she added a cute little emoji.” He tells me.
“Okay, awesome question,” I say as I open up twitter and follow her, “it’s kind of weird actually. So I have this notepad full of completely random lyrics. Phrases that somewhat fit together, I think. Next, I get out my piano and try and add some notes to them or add them all together. Most of the time I end up scratching whatever I wrote, but there are certain days where I can write four or five and love them. Afterwards, I try and add the music itself but I usually need some help for that. And that’s it, that’s my entire song writing process.” I ramble off.
“Okay! Next question from @BeccaOnTheWeb, and she asks, ‘Dear Finella, who is your celebrity crush?’”
“Oh I couldn’t say.” I cover quickly.
