At sixes and sevens my heart

I still remember

It was another busy day. Anna went to her office and buried herself in work like always. Daniel was also there working really hard although he was new he still treated everyone with utmost respect and care like he always knew everyone.

Anna saw him working and she couldn't stop herself from remembering the time when he slid into her umbrella asking for help. She couldn't forget how he smiled for her. The fact that this guy was willing to skip his lunch and eat with his friends just because she didn't eat.... She didn't know what to do..

Seeing this guy she also couldn't help but feel that he looked too similar to a guy she knew in her school time. The guy she regretted meeting... The guy who flipped her world upside down.. the reason she's like this today... She couldn't help but remember the time it all started..

It was in her school years. She had many friends and she was a lively girl who got along with everyone. A kind little soul who couldn't hurt anyone. She remembers seeing a guy named Daniel, sitting alone in his seat and crying. He was of the same height as her, same age, same class but still totally different. Anna had many friends and had mother to love her but this guy didn't have anyone. He didn't have parents, he use to live with his aunt and uncle who never gave him the love he deserved instead he was cursed, abused by them daily. everyone knew about this because each day they could see the bruises he got by his aunt and uncle's beatings on his faces, hands almost everywhere on his body. Some kids use to bully him for this because they knew no one would come for him, he didn't have parents to save him nor any friend. He use to get bullied and cry in the corner... That little kid who didn't have anyone to wipe his tears, who will stand for him, make him feel safe, make him feel like he's needed by someone...

Seeing him like this it broke her heart. She didn't interfere before because she was afraid that she might get bullied as well. But that day she couldn't help but pity that guy who kept sobbing in his seat wiping his tears with his bruised hands.. she went to his seat and took out her pink handkerchief out. It had cute little red hearts  and her name stiched on it, her mom made it for her. She looked at  it for awhile, it was her most favourite handkerchief. She hesitated but still decided to give him.

Seeing a beautiful little hand with a handkerchief reaching out to him Daniel looked at the person who was standing in front of him. He couldn't see properly because his eyes were filled with tears so he rubbed his eyes to take a clear look. He saw Anna. He knew her, she was a kind person who helped everyone but him... He couldn't believe that she actually took the initiative to come to him... He was busy with many thoughts in his mind so he actually forgot to take the offer of Anna. She was already regretting taking out her favourite handkerchief and seeing that he's not even taking it this made Anna feel a little bit annoyed. She said " How long are you planning to cry? Can't you see thay I've been standing here for so long and trying to give this favourite handkerchief of mine to you? Take this and wipe your tears." After saying this she was a little embarrassed she shouldn't have mentioned that it was her favourite... Suddenly Daniel said " if it's you favourite.... You don't have to give me..." Anna started feeling bad for him again. He was a guy who didn't have any friends if not her who else will try to help him? He'll probably keep crying like this. She Said " I'm sorry I didn't wanted to sound mean, please take this handkerchief and wipe your tears okay? I can't see you crying anymore." Hearing this Daniel really didn't know what to do.. why is she helping a guy like me? Do she want to bully me as well? Why would she approach an ugly person like me? He kept thinking but still took that handkerchief and wiped his tears after that he said "I..I will wash this and return to you tomorrow" Anna added quickly "no need!" He was a bit startled by this. Anna said "it's alright this is yours now, do you know what this means? Why I want you to take it?" Daniel replied "no" Anna chuckled and said "I expected this answer, it means that I want to be your friend. So if you accept this it means you want to be my friend too." Daniel didn't say anything.. he didn't know what to do. Suddenly someone tried to help him and even wanted to be his friend? What is he suppose to do? He had no idea what to do in a situation like this. Seeing him buried in his thoughts Anna sighed and said "How about this? I'll come to school tomorrow and if you don't return my handkerchief it means you are willing to be my friend as well but if you return it... Then I can't do anything.. I'll take it back and understand that you don't want to befriend me." Saying this she saw the bruises on his face, she went back to her seat and took out some bandages. She always had some for emergencies. She went back and gave those bandages to him. After that she gave him a smile and went back to her seat.
