Chapter 3
"Don't flatter yourself," I commented. "I would never fall for you."
Jesse looked at me, his brownish green eyes amused, "Please, girls love me." He said with a smirk, before crossing arms. I stared back up at him, pulling him close to me. Our lips were close, very close. "Well I'm not one of those girls." I said before pushing him away with a satisfied smirk.
His eyes clouded over, "We'll see about that."

I was opening my locker when I felt arms wrap around my waist. I spun around with lightening speed, dropping my books in the process, and causing Jesse to stumble back.
"What are you doing?" I hissed, he came closer. "We're a couple, remember?" He said with a lopsided smirk, his eyes greener than usual. "Not yet, you dummy. That's just gonna make things worse, I can't be with you RIGHT after ending things with Blake, it'll look bad." I said, pushing him away.
"Who cares what they think." He muttered, caging me against the locker with his arms. "We do, that's why we're doing this." I mumbled, wriggling free of his grasp. I turned around and started walking away.
He grabbed my arm, pulling me to his chest. I sighed; "Jess --"
I was interrupted by his soft lips crushing into mine, they moved like water, putting me into a trance. I pushed him away breathlessly. "What the hell, there's no one even around!" I yelled, he sent me a smirk. "You never said we couldn't have a little extra fun,"
"Ugh, just get away from me. I don't even know why I agreed to this, I can't do this right now! It's too soon, way too soon," I said icily, rubbing my temples. His eyes darkened, "Can't you ever just make up your fùcking mind?" He spat, before storming off. My mouth was left hanging open, what the hell just happened.

I walked home, thoughts swirling my head. I was so hopelessly heartbroken, I fucking hated Blake so much for what he did, but I couldn't help but still care for him. I couldn't decide what had happened, I didn't know if what we had was real anymore. Maybe all I was, was sex for him. Maybe I was just a toy, he showed me love, all while he was just controlling me like he had a remote control. Just the press of a button was all it took.
But I didn't love him, and I knew that. What was wrong with me? Why didn't I love him? Were his words all I lie? Did he never actually love me?
I couldn't pinpoint exactly what went wrong, if this was just all my fault for being selfish, I couldn't let myself love him. Not after what happened to my parents. Love had killed them, literally.
As my house popped into view, I sighed in relief. I could finally relax and watch some spongebob or something.
I inserted my key and opened the door, my sister Lily wasn't home yet. She was juggling college and a job just to support us, I felt bad being that she always had so much weight on her shoulders, being both mom and dad for the both of us. That's why I always tried to be as independent as possible.
I shrugged off my bookbag and dropped it onto my living room floor, then I headed into the kitchen to make some pizza rolls.
I ate some spoonfuls of Nutella while I waited for the pizza rolls to cook and laid down on my couch, as I flicked through the channels, I found myself drifting off, before I knew it, I was asleep.
When I woke up, the first thing I saw was orange, everywhere. Flames surrounded me and I was engulfed in smoke. I saw the fire spreading before my eyes , there was no escape. I could hear my sisters screams echoing throughout the house. "LILY!" I shouted in desperation, but it was too late, We were going to d---
I jolted awake, for real. I was sweating, and the smell of burning pizza rolls filled my nostrils. My heart was beating rapidly, what a fucked up dream. Without a second thought, I raced into the kitchen and shut the oven off. the pizza rolls were burned to a crisp, but that was all. I sighed in relief.
That was when Lily walked in, looking stressed. "What's burning?" She asked wrinkling her nose. "I took care of it." I replied, brushing it off. She gave me a pointed look.
"We need to talk." She said with a sigh. I gulped, this could only be something bad, I knew it.
"Basically, I'm going to go work with Uncle Sam in California, he's got some jobs lined up for me, that pays some big cash, but it's only for a couple of months. You're going to stay here because you need to focus on school, I've already arranged for you to stay with the Lorenzo's." She said, looking tired.
"Who?" I asked dumbly, the name sounded familiar. "Our neighbors from down the block, ya know, the ones who mom and dad used to be friends with." She drawled, "You were probably too young to remember, well start getting your clothes together cause I'm leaving tomorrow." She said with a yawn before disappearing into her room without another word. I sighed, of course I got no say in this.
I walked into my room to start get packed

"Rise and shine." I heard my sister whisper sarcastically as the blankets were ripped form me. My body rippled in goosebumps and I squirmed around, opening one eyes then closing them again.
"Get up!" She snapped. "But it's saturdayyyyyyy" I whined sleepily. "Yes, I know that. But I need to leave, I'm taking you to the Lorenzo's let's go." She said with annoyance before walking out of my room.
I got out of bed with a groan and threw on some random clothes, most days I had swag and shoe game, but today I was too tired. I didn't even bother with makeup.
I grabbed my stuff and my keys, so that I could come back anytime I needed to and jumped into the car with Lily. "Okay, no drinking, no smoking, no cutting, no parties." She told me as we approached a big White House. I nodded my head glumly, I don't know why she bothered to say this everytime, it wasn't going to change anything.
We pulled up to the house and got out of the car. Lily rung the doorbell with a bright smile on her face.
What I didn't expect to see was Jesse Lorenzo.
