Late Night Cake

Greetings my dudes,

This story is set when Cinder is still Queen of Luna while Kai is visiting.  

Word Count: 649

Cinder had been tossing and turning in her bed for the last two hours. She knew that she had a long day ahead of her but knowing that Kai was only a two-minute walk away kept her up. She lied in bed for another twenty minutes before giving up. She rolled out of bed and walked across her room to the door, she swung it open and almost got hit in the head by Kai's fist which was coming right at her.

"couldn't sleep?" Cinder asked with a smirk on her face, knowing that Kai had given up a whole two minutes before she had

"Nope, so I thought I might bug you so we could both be tired tomorrow."

"How kind of you, come on in" she stepped out of the way of the door and ushered him in with one arm.

"thanks" Kai stepped into the room and awkwardly stood there not quite knowing what to do. Cinder was just as stumped for ideas until she heard Kai's stomach growl.

"Are you hungry?"

"Well ya, but I don't want to bother the staff so late, so I'm fine, really."

"No, as your host I'm going to feed you come on" Cinder grabbed his arm and pulled him out of her room and down the hall towards the kitchen.

"Cinder, it's really ok, you do-" he was cut off by Cinder putting a finger to his lips

"shhh not another word we're gonna get food"

They walked hand in hand down to the kitchen without Kai arguing anymore. Once they arrived Cinder went straight to the fridge and pulled out a small chocolate cake and a bottle of milk.

"Don't just stand there go get the plates and forks"

"um ok....where?"

"Third cupboard on the left and the long skinny drawer next to the sink"

while Kai got the plates and forks Cinder got two glasses and a tray to put everything on. They loaded the tray up and Kai carried back up to her room where they sat on her bed and watched a movie on her large TV.

"Do you mind if I ask why you have cake in your fridge?"

"Because I'm the queen and I can, for the same reason I have a flat screen in my room."

"Well I'm the emperor and I don't have any of those things," Kai said pouting.

"That's because you have Torin to stop you, I have Iko and heaven knows that she will just encourage me."

"I suppose that's true, wow you are mad with power"

"runs in the family" Cinder said around a mouthful of cake.

"I wonder if our kids will be the same," Kai said, instantly regretting it. He expected Cinder to choke on her cake or kick him out of her room. He knew that he wanted to marry her, rule the Commonwealth together, and have kids but he had no clue if she wanted any of those things.

Instead of doing anything that Kai expected her to do she swallowed her cake and said "well I have no doubt in my mind that they will, what I have been wondering about is if they will have the Lunar gift because Scarlet doesn't and her grandfather was lunar, but I don't know if her dad did, do you?"

Kai couldn't help but grin as she spoke. Not only was she not freaked out by him mentioning kids but she had been thinking about them too. He pulled her into his arms and they laid down on the bed carful to avoid the cake. "I love you, ya know" he said with his face pressed into her hair.

"Certainly not as much as I love you" she whispered back. Lying with their limbs all tangled together, they finally dozed off still smiling, and with the half eaten cake still sitting on the bed.
