No matter how much Ananya hated her college, this particular place was her favorite in college, and also in her small world too.
The college is right beside a river. And at the back side of the college is this small river bank that was her own solitary address.
Students weren’t allowed in here since that would give birth to fresh tobacco consumers and some gambling too. But Ananya was fortunate enough every time to be noticed by someone.
Well, maybe except for one. Her daily distant partner whom she meets every time she tries escaping. Distant why you ask? Well Ananya and her partner have never talked, and have always been in a distance of maybe a yard?
She doesn’t even know her partner’s name but observes him very closely each time they meet.
Just like how Ananya would enjoy every taste of solitary on the benches of the bank, she would be accompanied with her partner, from a distance.
The first time she bunked her class and decided to leave it for heaven’ sake, she got the chance to sit and relax and discover this new favorite corner.
And it was here where she met him. He would always be sitting on the bench staring at the river, very distant. So much into himself, that he never noticed being stalked or gawked at by Ananya.
Selfish? Self obsessed?
Even though they never talked for Ananya, it was the peace that she desired. Just both of them, without any foreign disturbance with a natural concert to their ears of their surroundings.
It’s been 5 weeks already, and each week she would be there. He’s not there during the lunch breaks, of course she checked.
But only during study hours. Bunking classes every week for more than once was a luxury, which she couldn’t afford. So she kept patient and eagerly longed for just a day in a week to meet him.
One Monday after a romantic binge watching weekend Ananya wanted to have a look at her man, though not confirmed by himself. She was missing him, because in her mind he was already hers.
So, the next day at the first hour she dropped her Majors lecture and found herself at the back of the college.
For the first time, she was alone today. Alone? No. First, She came earlier and was eagerly waiting for someone of whom she always has viewed the side profile of.
She kept herself busy by sometimes going through her purse, the other times regretting bunking her class. She knew it was useless yet she didn’t want to get up.Maybe she wanted to sit silently and enjoy herself. Maybe.
She was lost in herself when someone came and sat beside her. Her heart jumped up. She looked towards her side, to find him beside her. For a minute she wanted to throw herself on the river, or maybe hit her head on the bench and be unconscious. But..but she wanted to know what it’s like to be with him, beside him.
They both silently sat there for a few minutes. She knew if it continued like this she would never be able to have a moment with him.
So, she broke the silence and spoke up first.
“Which year?” with a very unusual low tone she asked him. She wanted to know him, every detail about him.
He kept on staring at the river totally unaware of the question. Maybe the prolonged stare made his eerie break. “Huh?”
“Which Semester are you studying in?”
“Fifth”
“Oh”
