*So, here goes. I literally have no plan, just cute stuff and hopefully a lovely story. I've seen loads of enemy to lover fanfics for Sam and Deena, so thought I'd go for something a bit different. Hope you enjoy :')*

-September 2nd, 1993-

Deena sat on the bus on the way to a Sunnyvale cheerleading competition with Simon and Kate. She's sat with her headphones securely placed over her ears, Mr. Grieves by Pixies is playing loudly through them.

Kate suddenly pulls the headphones off of Deena. "What the hell are you doing?" Deena says loudly as Kate places the headphones in her lap. "You've hardly said two words to us today. What's up with you?" questioned Kate. Simon was also looking at Deena with a face of curiosity. Deena sighed and looked out of the bus window. "A lot has been going on at home with my dad ok? Josh is a pain, and I'm just tired." Kate and Simon both looked at each other for a second. Kate put her hand on Deena's shoulder and they talk about it for a while. Simon jumps in every so often with a joke that is so un-funny that it actually becomes funny. It cheers Deena up.

"I could do without today too." Deena rolls her eyes. "Sunnyvale." She continued.

All of a sudden, the bus stopped at a stop that it never usually stopped at. Nobody took much notice and everyone continued to chat as the bus came to a halt. Deena had her headphones back on at this point, looking out the window melancholically. A blonde girl standing at the bus stop wearing a very bright Shadyside cheerleading costume caught Deena's eye. Deena slowly removed the headphones and her eyes followed the girl as she stepped onto the bus, and gradually made her way to a seat a few seats in front of the trio. It felt as though it was in slow motion.

Kate and Simon had noticed what was happening. "So you'll take your headphones off for someone." Simon half-whispered while chuckling. Kate snorted and nudged Deena's arm. "Shut up." Deena smirked with a guilty sort of denial.

Eventually, the bus arrived at Sunnyvale College. Everyone got off the bus, including the girl that Deena was still keeping her eye on. Even though Deena was pretending she wasn't. Deena, Kate and Simon hung back and were the last to alight. Deena noticed there were some headphones and a walkman left on a seat. The music was still playing. Deena thought she recognised the tune so she carefully put her ear up to the heaphones. "Fuck!" She said in excitement. Kate and Simon were up ahead of her, almost off the bus. "They've got good music taste - it's the Pixies." Deena uttered, almost confused.

"C'mon, we don't want to miss any action." Said Simon impatiently. "We'll just hand them in at reception" concluded Kate. Deena started walking towards the exit, holding the items in her hands like treasure, still baffled by the music, smiling. All of a sudden, the blonde girl is seen running toward the bus in a bit of a fluster.

Kate and Simon pressed themselves to the wall of the bus as the blonde pushed her way on apologetically. Deena stood in the walkway of the bus with the headphones and walkman. The blonde girl stopped at the sight of Deena holding her belongings. And at the sight of Deena.

"Hello." Said the blonde to the Deena awkwardly.

Simon and Kate looked at each other in anticipation. Deena didn't say anything, just sort of stuttered, looking the blonde.

"Uh-h, these are yours?" Deena finally asked.

The blonde girl smiled lightly and fiddled with her hands. "Uh, uh yeah they're mine."

She abruptly stepped towards Deena and gently took the headphones. Their hands brushed. The blonde girl gave Deena final smile. "Thanks." She said and began to walk off of the bus. Deena again, didn't say anything.

Kate and Simon gave the blonde girl a cheeky, knowing smile and pressed themselves to the bus again as the blonde began to step off.

"Wait!" Deena shouted. The blonde stood and looked back at her. "Uh, you have a great taste in music. I uh- I love the pixies." The blonde smiled again and scratched her elbow nervously.

"Ah cool, um I didn't think that many people knew them. They're great." The blonde replied enthusiastically. Deena agreed and they talked about the pixies and the history of them for a minute or so. Kate and Simon tip-toed off the bus, trying not to laugh. Both the girls noticed this, which in turn made them laugh. The blonde girl shook her head, clearly laughing at what she was thinking, made her way to Deena again and reached out her hand.

"I'm uh, I'm Sam." Deena wasn't used to handshakes. She shook Sam's hand nervously and admired her face for a second or two. It was nice. "Deena." Deena replied. "Cool." They both stood there briefly, feeding off of each others energy.

"Well um." They both started at exactly the same time. They laughed. "You first." Proposed Deena.

"I better go." Said Sam as she suggestively turned her body to the side and pointed at the bus door. "I'm in the cheerleading competition for Shadyside."

Deena wanted to ask where she was from, how long she'd been here for and how long she was staying. She wanted to ask her everything.

"Right, right. Yeah, um good luck." Said Deena warmly. "I'll be watching in the hall, so I'll see you there?"

"You absolutely will." Sam replied, trying to sound confident. It didn't work.

They exchanged one last smile. Sam threw in an awkward little wave too.

Kate and Simon both gave Sam a very hearty "Byeee!" As she departed from the bus. Sam looked at them and smiled nervously.

Deena knew what was waiting for her outside. Kate and Simon looked directly at Deena as she stepped down. "Ooooooo." They uttered childishly. Deena scoffed, trying to hide her giddiness.

"Come on, you idiots."

The trio walked towards the college.
