Lost in Space -Klance AU-

This story starts with a seemingly angsty, emo teenager and an annoyingly self absorbed pun-making nerd.

Keith Kogane is in a particularly bad mood this morning when Shiro calls a team meeting. 

He makes his way out to the living space where Shiro is standing, suited up with Allura by his side.

They both smile at Keith, who musters a grouchy looking smile back. 

Of course he's the first up. Pidge will probably be next, then Hunk, and of course Lance last. Lance and his stupid lion slippers and shiny skin.

As Keith predicted, Pidge shows up a mere two minutes later with Hunk trailing after her. They all wait for Lance for a whole fifteen minutes before Shiro decides to start.

As soon as the first word comes out of Shiro's mouth-- Keith remembers what it is too-- Lance barges into the living room. 

"Never fear, your spacehood savior is here." He says in an annoyingly high-pitched tone.

Keith likes to think that maybe someday puberty will do it's job and fix that. Though, it seems like the time will never come. (a/n: not me thinking about how lance is already like 17 and built dIfFerEnt.)

"Lance, no. It's neighborhood savior." Pidge hums, clicking away at some keys on her computer while Hunk watches from over her shoulder. It looks like centipede from what Keith can tell in the reflection of her glasses.

"Yeah yeah whatever. I'll admit; wasn't my best stuff, I know." Lance remarks.

Keith scoffs. 

"Anyways, what's all this talk about a mission?" Lance asks, taking a seat on the couch next to a grumbling Keith.

"I was trying to explain it before you walked in," Shiro teases lightheartedly.

Lance makes an awkward face and Shiro turns his attention to the rest of the team.

"I've called you all here because we have a new mission. The residents of Volterra have been having trouble with some Galran outlaws."

Keith grumbles again, and this time Pidge speaks up. "I thought we already took care of all of the unloyal Galra?"

"We thought we did too. But it seems, for every loyal Galra, there's three unloyal ones." Allura interjects with a somewhat snarky tone. 

"What she's trying to say," Shiro shoots Allura a look. "Is that turns out we missed an underground bunker of some sorts with an entire alliance of rebels." 

Keith and Pidge both sigh at the same time. 

"We all know that dealing with the Galra has been difficult for everyone, but it's worth it. There are people in the city who are being targeted by the outlaws. And it is our job, as Voltron, to stop that from happening."

"Shiro is right!" Coran exclaims, startling Keith. Keith had been so focused on Shiro that he hadn't even heard Coran enter. He twirls his mustache thoughtfully.

"I'll be separating you all into groups. Pidge, Hunk, and Allura, you'll be on survivor duty. Look for any victims of assaults or attacks. Keith and Lance, you'll be infiltrating the base in hopes of bringing the group down from the inside."

"Awww mannnnn," Lance whines. "I have to group up with the edgelord himself?" 

Shiro frowns, but Keith is already racking his brain for insults. It's not like he wants to be in a group with Lance either, but what can he do about it? Shut up, for one.

Lance looks over at Keith with a smug look when Keith pauses. Of course he can't actually think of any comebacks.

"Lance," Shiro says in a warning voice.

"I was only joking." Lance scoffs.

"A joke is usually funny, but I don't see anybody laughing." Keith snarks back.

Pidge snorts, but clears her throat when Allura shoots a warning glare in her direction. Keith can still see Pidge is playing games, this time not centipede. It looks more like Pac-Man now.

"Go get suited up, we're headed out in half an hour." Shiro says, effectively ending anymore snide comments.

Just shy of a half an hour later, Keith is suited up and ready to go in Black. He seems a bit hesitant about the upcoming mission, Keith can feel it.

Finally, Lance shows up to his lion. Late. Again.

"Alright, the coordinates have been sent to all of your lions. Follow Keith. We'll be right behind you guys in the castle." Shiro says before turning his mic off.

Keith pulls up the coordinates to the planet Volterra. It shouldn't take very long to get there. He hopes this will be a quick, and easy mission. Just what they need. A win.

But something inside him tells him it wont be as easy as he thinks.
