"Today is the day my tutor comes over.
Remember to be nice.
Act smart.
Talk in complete sentences.
At least look like you are willing to learn.
Use all three brain cells."
I repeated this phrase probably a billion times. (highly over exaggerated) More like 5 times because I already forgot the third part of my motto.
Okay, today is the day that I'll use 80% of my brain power to actually learn— take that back, 80% is a little too high, more like 30%, pass math, then pass high school, say goodbye to my bullies and uh, him forever and boom! All of my first world problems will be resolved.
DING DONG
And just on time, too! It sounded like my tutor is already here! I mean, nobody really comes over besides Kokichi (rarely) to my house, so who else would I expect?
As I approached the door, I tried my best to act slightly nicer since I wanted to make a good first impression as well as look averagely smart.
Okay, don't mess this up Nagito. Just open the door, greet them politely, and then start your lessons.
As I opened the front door, I began saying the lines that I prepared myself, until I stopped mid-sentence.
"Hey, you must be my math tutor, hi, my name is Nagit-" I stared blankly.
"Oh, it's you-
SLAM
Without even a second thought, I slammed the door in front of his face. (Well there goes greeting them politely)
No way. Him?! Of all people! I must be dreaming, and if I am, let this nightmare end already.
DING DONG
Oh shit, he's really here.
"Um, hello~ I'm not sure that you know, but I'm pretty sure this is the part where you let me in." I could hear HIM respond from the other side of the door.
"You are not welcomed here." I shouted back in response. "Sorry, you must be at the wrong house."
"Mmmm, nope. Doesn't seem like it."
Out of annoyance, I opened the door ever so slightly as I faced Kamukura.
"No way are you my tutor... No way can you even be a tutor."
"Actually, I am and I can. I am, afterall, ranked the top student of Hope's Peak University."
"I don't believe you."
"Oh? And why's that?"
"Because you're the notorious 'bad boy' and have the scariest face in existence," (Oh oops, maybe I shouldn't have said that out loud) I felt the front door move outward slightly and Kamukura's foot slip in.
"Hey! Get out of my house! You aren't allowed, you aren-" before I could push Kamukura out, he glared himself in.
"You were saying?" I could feel Kamukura's crimson red eyes hypnotize mine. My body seemed to urge backwards and sink to the floor in fear as I only responded back with "W-Welcome."
Kamukura walked past me as he made himself comfortable on the living room couch.
"Get up. I've wasted enough time fooling around with your childish behavior."
I wanted to retort back with a snarly remark, but I decided to hold it back since he seemed mad, and I didn't want to add fuel to the fire. So, I got up and sat myself on a different couch. And then, there was silence.
"Okay, do you need help with anything, or are we just going to do nothing."
"(whispered: I wish I didn't need your help but...) I-I need help with math," I didn't look at him.
"Well that's useful information." I could hint the sarcasm in his voice. "Specifically what in math do you need help with," Kamukura asked slightly annoyed.
"(Pre-Cal) Rational functions..." I whispered.
"Speak up."
I was startled with the firm response. "(Pre-Cal) R-Rational functions..." I repeated, raising my voice a bit.
"Okay, then flip to some pages in the book that you think that you need help on or homework that you struggled on."
I began flipping through my math book to some of the pages that I thought were quite difficult and brought out some of my past homework sheets that I didn't understand much on.
"Heh, I remember learning this in 11th grade," I heard him whisper as he took the math sheets and scanned through them.
"So which one do you want to start on first?" he asked. He didn't raise his voice that time and I felt calmer. To be honest, it felt strange for him to teach me, considering that we are both technically the same age, yet in different grades.
"Let's start out with the basics first. This should be a no-brainer, what's the difference between an expression and an equation."
Firstly, this isn't even part of my curriculum! Secondly, you're telling me that they're not the same thing?!
I decided to stay quiet.
"Please tell me you at least know the difference." I could hear the annoyance rise.
Okay okay, I get it! I'm a dumbass, please don't kill me!
[Sigh] "We learned this in middle school. An equation has an equal sign which means it'll have to be equivalent to some other variable or number whereas an expression doesn't equal anything."
"I knew that..." I answered.
"Then maybe open your mouth the next time I ask you a damn question." I couldn't tell whether it was just me, but did the room just get a lot colder...
"Moving on. (whispered: Unbelievable...) Okay, for this one, you want to... [insert elaborated explanation]"
(Kamukura gives out an example question)
(I answer)
(And then shouting. Lots of shouting)
"no, No, NO! What are you doing? This is all WRONG! I hope that you're just messing around, and if you, you better stop."
"S-Sorry..."
The pattern just continued like this for the rest of unfortunately long hour.
---- one long hour later ----
"You're so frustrating to teach..." I heard him mumble from under his breath. To be honest, I couldn't tell whether he was intentionally saying it out loud for me to hear and to put me down, but if he did, then he succeeded. He was packing his stuff as I laid my head on the table.
I could feel my body overwhelmed along with my brain filled with the negative words he said. I just wanted so bad for the day to end, and luckily It is.
I watched him get up from the couch, grabbed his stuff, and walked towards the door, opening just a bit before saying, "I'll stop by tomorrow at 6pm. Let's not argue like today the next time I see you." And then he walked out.
Fuck, I'm gonna have to see him tomorrow... and many days later..."
Dammit, I'm so tired. I think that he drained my living mental health out of me. Maybe I should just sleep and call it a day... if only I could sleep forever, then maybe I won't have to deal with the future...
