Settling Down

Chapter 10: Night Out

After finishing up packing his suitcase, Ed went over to see if everyone else was ready. Winry had already packed up, so she was helping out Nina with her packing. Unlike Jackson, Nina wasn't extremely mature and tended to ask for help from time to time. It was a lot more common when she was younger but now, she was able to do some things by herself. Ed walked into Jackson's room to see if he finished up.

"Hey Jack" Ed called out.

"Hi dad" Jack replied.

"Finished packing?" Ed asked.

"Sure have, I even made sure to let Sarah know that she needs to get ready" Jack answered.

Ed smiled at that. His son, now 14 years old, is able to act like an adult and is in a healthy relationship. He decided that he should go and check to see if Nina needed help with her packing. The reason they are doing this is because the Amestrian Military invited them to a party in Central. It was sort of a reunion for all the people that had been a part of the battle with the Homunculi. Ed asked if he could bring more people than just his family and they allowed it. Henceforth, Jaden and his family were joining them.

"Hey big brother" Al greeted, walking into the house.

"Hey Al, Mei, Lewis and Vera" Ed greeted back.

Alphonse and Mei had been quite busy after getting their second child. A few months after Nina was born, Mei gave birth to Lewis. 3 years later, Vera was born, and they had been a happy family ever since.

"Everyone packed and ready?" Mei asked.

"Not too sure, I was just about to check up on Nina" Ed answered.

"NO NINA, DO NOT TAKE THAT MANY SHIRTS" Winry yelled from upstairs.

"I think it might take a while" Ed commented.

"Should be alright, we do need to be at the station by 12 and we still have an hour" Al exclaimed.

After 10 minutes or so, the two families made their way to Resembool Station to meet up with Jaden and his family. Upon arriving, Sarah ran up to hug Jackson. They walked with her to find Jaden standing with his wife, Lucy, and his son Derek.

"Hello everyone" Jaden greeted.

"Hey Jaden" Al replied.

"So, what's this reunion party like?" Derek asked.

"From what I remember, the invitation says that there will be music, a dance floor, a buffet, and some entertainment for people that don't want to dance" Ed explained.

"Nice, I'm sure we'll all enjoy it" Lucy exclaimed.

The three families eventually hopped onto the train and made their way to Central.

A few hours later

Everyone had made it to the Military Party all dressed up a proper as can be. There was a wide array of delicious meals in the buffet and lots of entertainment too. The kids were on their own doing their own stuff while the adults were having a chat amongst themselves.

"So Fullmetal, how's the married life going?" Roy asked.

"It's been great, I do miss travelling but being with Winry has been the best thing in my life" Ed answered.

"Thank you, sweetie," Winry thanked, "What about you Mustang?"

"Well, the kids have been a little tricky to handle due to Riza's and my status in the military" Roy explained, "But we managed to pull through and make time for the twins"

"I'm sure it has been tricky for you and Al" Riza commented.

"Well, at first is was but luckily Jaden was always there to give us help and tips in parenting" Ed exclaimed, "I don't know what I'd do without his help"

"Probably be very frustrated" Winry commented.

"Hey, you would too" Ed shot back.

"Yeah, I would" Winry agreed.

Soon afterwards, the band decided to play some slow music to change the pace up. A bunch of the adults decided to get on the dance floor and have a slow dance with their partners. Many notable couples were on the dance floor having a dance. Roy was with Riza, Ling with Lan Fan, Al and Mei, Jaden and Lucy, Ed and Winry, even Jackson and Sarah were dancing too. As everyone danced, Ed looked straight into his wife.

"Winry, I'm glad I settled down with you, you're the best thing to be a part of my life" Ed exclaimed.

"Oh Ed, I'm glad we were able to finally let the past go and be together" Winry replied.

"I love you Winry" Ed said.

"I love you too Ed" Winry said back. The two kissed in the magical moment. The other previously mentioned couples also kissed as well. As the dance ended, everyone went back to mingling. It was great to see everyone who helped out Ed in his quest and got to talk with everyone again. Many of the soldiers who knew Ed and Al personally had gotten on with their lives and were able to pick up on what happened back then. Overall, it had been a great reunion to attend to.
