NOELANI WAS TRYING AND FAILING TO PRETEND THAT she wasn't upset with Leilani for the stunt the night before.

Noelani kept both hands on Alani's stroller, making sure that one hand covered the spot where she had firmly tied the leashes to so that they could walk beside them and huffed a little when Leilani's shoulder brushed against her own.

The duo were walking through the almost empty neighborhood in silence until Leilani let out a wary sigh, "Please just say it."

"What's wrong with you? I told you to chill out when you moved in. Jalen is this close," Noelani put her fingers together in a pinching position, "To kicking you out already."

"Isn't it your house too? Don't you have a say?" Leilani retorted.

Noelani shot her younger cousin a look, "Of course I have a say but you're not helping yourself doing shit like that and coming back all late. What were you doing over there in Hollywood anyway, getting cross faded and shit?"

"Living my life." Leilani shrugged in a nonchalant way.

At that remark, Noelani paused and shot her another glare before peeking her head into the stroller to check on her daughter.

Alani was fast asleep, her tilted sideways onto the material of the stroller and Noelani pushed back some of her hair, relieved, "Imma need a better answer than that."

Leilani rolled her eyes, "Met this girl while I was looking for work yesterday and things got out of hand."

"Clearly." Noelani stated.

"You know, you should come with me the next time I go to hang out with her. You would like her. Kinda reminds me of the old you." Leilani retorted.

"Late nights out aren't a good idea for me anymore." Noelani shook her head as the two turned a corner on the sidewalk.

"Why? Because he said so?" Leilani asked.

Noelani stopped once more and turned to look her cousin in the eye, "Don't start with me about Jalen."

"So it's true. He keeps you locked up in the house." Leilani tightened her ponytail.

"No..." Noelani muttered.

"Hmm. Right. What happened to you?"

"What do you mean by that?" Blue, her dog whined a little, and Noelani looked down before taking a plastic bag out of the stack she had waiting for her in her back pocket.
