Part of their roommate agreement was that Dream would ultimately pay the bills and that Sapnap would be his car monkey. Running errands, buying groceries, and in this specific instance, picking up coffee from Dream's favorite cafe, which happened to be a 20-minute drive from home. It didn't help that it was incredibly humid, making Sapnap shed his layers in the car before stepping out into the moist heat.
Fuck, he mutters, sweltering under the sun. He catches the dirty look a young mother gives him before ushering her toddler away. Whoops, he thinks, too loud?
He's met with a gush of cold air as he pushes open the door, instantly letting out a sigh of relief. Walking towards the mobile orders, he spins each cup around to look at the names before a very delectable looking cupcake in the stand catches his eye.
"Hey," he calls out to the nearest worker, who turns around with a soft smile. "How much for the cupcake?"
"Hi! It's a dollar fifty. But a dollar twenty-five if you order it with a drink!"
"Can I get two, please? And I'll get a strawberry smoothie too. For Nick."
He rocks on his heels as he waits for her to ring him up. A smoothie sounded refreshing. After paying, he moves back over to the mobile orders to look for Dream's drink. After tediously rotating every cup at least twice, he asks the girl if there was a mix-up since he couldn't find it. It seemed like she was the only one working.
"Sorry, I was wondering if you had an order for Clay? My friend ordered a coffee for pick-up but I don't see it here."
"Oh, sorry, I'm still making it! There are so many mobile orders today and I'm the only one working, I'm so sorry about that. I'll bring it out with yours."
"No, no," he shakes his head, "don't stress. It's okay, just take your time."
Sapnap watches as she carries herself from station to station, ever so graceful and moving as if she were floating.
"So," he clears his throat, "do you usually work here on your own?"
"Yeah," she says from behind the counter, lifting her head just high enough to meet his eyes with hers. "We're just a little family business so I usually help out around here when my parents can't. Which is like every day, really," she laughs. "They're busy with my siblings and I don't mind working here. Everyone's mostly nice and I go to school a few minutes away so it's good to have some extra money."
"That's awesome. This is my friend's favorite place, and I can see why. It's cool, yeah, really cool." he stutters.
"Thanks!" She beams, placing two drinks as well as a bag on the counter and pushing it towards him. "Here's your drinks and the cupcakes. Sorry about the wait again."
"It's really no problem," Sapnap smiles as he picks up the food. "It was a fun wait. It's nice in here. I really like the AC, it's so hot out."
"Well, that's Florida for you," she rests her hands on the counter, adjusting her visor. "I'll see you around then? If your friend likes this place so much."
"I have a feeling I'll be back for myself. I'll see you around, uh?" He tilts his head, trying to read her name tag.
"Rella."
He nods, pushing open the door slightly. "Bye, Rella. Thank you."
