"I'm sorry..."
Those were the last words Marzia uttered before Felix's lips pressed against hers, tears running down her face. Marzia slightly stumbled from shock, but then melted into the kiss as butterflies filled her soul, one of Felix's arms around her waist while the other softly held the back of her body. When the two parted from the kiss, Marzia's head was tilted towards the ground, blushing and crying.
"Marzia," Felix whispered. "What... what's wrong?"
"I need to know what happened," Marzia muttered. "I don't know what happened and until then, I don't think I can have the courage to start any sort of relationship." Staring at the ground, trembling, Marzia's tears fell to the cold tile of the hospital floor. Not going to bear seeing him in pain anymore, Marzia turned away from him and ran down the hall, to the front desk to see why her nurse had not come in today, but more importantly...
To find the truth.
"Marzia!" Felix called, running after her.
She stopped at the front desk, speaking to the man who sat there.
"Excuse me, I was wondering... is my nurse absent?" Marzia questioned.
"Name?" the man asked.
"Marzia Bisoginin," she replied.
The man picked up a clipboard and flipped through a couple pages, skim-reading for her name. The man muttered some names, following his finger going down the page. "Ah! Bisoginin," he said.
"Oh... It appears your nurse... She resigned today," he said, looking down at the paper. "What assistance did you ne..." the man looked up, but by that time, Marzia had ran off.
She ran out the doors, past the hospital park, and into the city beyond. She finally stopped at a quiet, serene place- the top of a building where the sun was peeking behind the gray clouds, the sun casting beams upon it's city. Marzia hadn't a clue why she left... All she knew was that she was confused, and that she just wanted to know what had happened to her. No one else could tell her...
"Marzia?" Footsteps echoed behind her, that voice easily recognized.
Felix.
"Marzia..." Felix said reaching out a hand hesitantly. "I know what happened." Marzia looked up at him, not realizing that he did know. Of course- he was the one who was always there, who had been the one to come searching for her after her accident... how had she not seen it before? She walked closer to the edge and sat down, her legs dangling over the side of the building reminding her of how close she could be to death. Marzia sighed, letting her head fall. She felt stupid, absolutely stupid. She lifted her head as Felix sat next to her, staring from above at the city the two of them called home.
"Marzia..." Felix sighed. "I'm sorry... I should have told you sooner." Looking away from her, Felix took a small breathe.
"Before your accident, the two of us were... boyfriend and girlfriend." He looked down, trembling slightly. Marzia stared at him, eyes wide as she waited for him to continue."We... I mean, I... I proposed to you. You accepted. Many of our friends came over... Ken, Ian and Anthony, Bunny, Kalel, Cry, Zoe and Alfie... They all came over to celebrate." He chucked slightly. "I remember the girls fussing about you, helping you pick out your dress and going crazy whenever one of us guys tried to come downstairs.
"Anyway....
"I remember the rehearsal wedding. The girls convinced me to wear white to match your dress. Like always, you were beautiful. You had on a white strapless dress that flowed to the ground. It was practically made out of white roses. You were stunning... We all knew it.
"A couple days after the rehearsal wedding, we went out. We drove to the aquarium. You forgot... something. I can't really remember what. But we were too close to the edge of the steps and when you whirled around..." Felix's voice trailed off. Marzia gazed at him with sad eyes as he turned his head away, wiping tears from his eyes.
"...I didn't get to see you for a long time. I was told to stay away for your health, and I did so. I had no idea about your condition, or anything," Fekix finished softly.
"So... now you know," he said standing up. His footsteps rang through the empty sky as he began his departure, but...
"Felix," a soft Italian voice called to Felix, and he turned around, trying to avoid direct eye contact. Marzia stood up and walked to him, wrapping her arms around him in a hug.
"Thank you..." she whispered.A/N
