The door closed behind the nurse as she went to retrieve Felix. Marzia pressed one of the buttons on the side of the bed and the head of the bed tilted up, propping her up so she could sit properly. She took the book that was on her bedside table- The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman- and flipped it open, reading a few pages before the door opened once again.
"Ms. Bisognin, Mr. Kjellberg is coming in now." Footsteps drew closer and the door closed. Marzia gasped. She couldn't believe it- he looked exactly like the Felix in her dreams- or reality. It was difficult to tell anymore.
"Is this a dream?" Marzia whispered, the book slipping out of her hands into her lap. "How is this possible?"
"Marzia, do you remember me...?" The man smiles slightly, his eyes full of tears. "Marzia, please, tell me you remember me." Marzia looked down.
"No."
She fiddled with the bed sheets, trying to wrap her head around the situation. The only man she could remember was standing in front of her, but she didn't know him. She looked back up into his gorgeous blue eyes, locking their gaze. After a few seconds she cast the look aside, looking down at her lap again. Silence overtook the room and both minds were stirring with questions. For Felix, it was wondering about her condition-- how she was feeling, her health, whatnot. For Marzia, she wondered how the man could appear in both worlds. She still couldn't tell which one was fake.
"But..." her voice trailed off. "Yes?" Felix said quickly, wanting to hear what she had to say. Not only that, he hadn't been able to hear her voice for a long time. He missed her adorable accent, her beauty, her personality-- he missed everything about her.
"Nothing," Marzia finally replied after a long silence. Her voice was harsh and cold, much unlike the cute, peppy, excited voice Felix knew. "I don't know you. I don't know anyone. Why is it after all this time that I've felt like I needed to find you, only now you appear? And in my dreams. I'm not sure. Every time I find you there you disappear, and now you show up here and by this time I don't know the difference."
"Marzia," Felix said. She snapped her head up towards him, as if woken from a small nap. Her eyes were slits.
Felix drew closer to her.
"Marzia, I am someone you know. In fact, I'm someone you love."
"Don't flatter yourself," Marzia scoffed under her breath.
"I can tell you right now," Felix was at the side of her bed, "that I am very real." He gently intertwined his hand with hers. She looked up at him, not with anger or fear, but sadness. That's what she saw. In his eyes were the saddest things. She knew, he was sad, so very sad.
Suddenly a phone buzzed, Felix taking the source out of his pocket. "Damn," he muttered. Their hands unlocked from the hold.
"I have to go Marzia, but I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" He smiled and waved before leaving the room. Marzia sat, staring into space.
What just... happened...?
There was something there she never knew she could feel before.
Sure, she had been sad. But never at this extent.
This person... made her feel so... heartbroken.A/N
