Rose made her way to the Gryffindor table to be greeted with lot's of cheers especially from James. After they had all eaten to their fill, Professor McGonagall dismissed the school and the Gryffindor prefect came rushing towards the first years.
"First years, follow me!" She said in a commanding voice. Rose got up from her bench and followed the prefect and on her way she passed Albus, he smiled sadly at her and then turned away.
Rose sighed. Of course, Albus was upset! She would have certainly been if she was in his place! Her train of thought was broken when the prefect spoke again, "This is the Gryffindor common room. The common room is where you will be spending all you free time and where you all can relax after a long day of studying. This is also where school notices, ads, lost posters, etc. will be posted. The entrance to the Gryffindor common room is concealed under the portrait of the Fat Lady. To enter one had to present the Fat Lady with the correct password of the week. This week's password is 'Blubber wits'. Now get inside, what are you all waiting for!"
The portrait of the fat lady swung forward to reveal a round hole in the wall which led to the entrance of the tower.
Rose was welcomed by the roaring fire, stuffed armchairs, and the great view from the tall windows. The gold chandeliers cast warm glows all around the cozy common room.
"The dormitories are reached by climbing the winding staircase." she said while she directing the girls through one staircase and the boys through the other.
Rose climbed up the stairs and immediately fell asleep on the comfy, scarlet colored four poster bed.
The next morning she was greeted by James and his very noisy friends.
"I bet you can't wait for you first day to start can you Rosie?" James said as he slung an arm around her shoulders.
"Well technically her first day has already started James", his friend replied before Rose could answer.
Rose look inquiringly towards the boy.
"Oh yeah, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Asher, Asher Lee but you can call me Ash, because everyone does, and I'm James's best, and only friend!" He said proudly.
"Mhm, you can call us the forerunners of the famous 'Weasley twins' sis! James replied winking.
"You both sure suit each other nicely! Both of you are two big bundles of energy!" Rose said laughing.
They both grinned identically and dragged Rose to the Great Hall for breakfast, with them.
After she took a few bites, she got up abruptly.
"What's wrong?" Asher said with a bulging mouthful of buttered toast.
"Nothing, I just want to be early for my first transfiguration lesson!" she said. "I'll see you guys in lunch break"
"Good luck Rosie!" James yelled.
Rose smiled in reply and rushed off towards the transfiguration classroom, and to her very great surprise, found the last person she would have wanted to share a class with. Scorpius Malfoy."What are you doing here?" said both of them at the same time.
"Nothing" both of them replied.
Rose had a strong sudden urge to laugh, but she quashed that feeling and took a seat as far as away from Malfoy as possible.
Slowly the rest of the class filled in. When Albus entered, Rose gave him a thumbs up and a smile, which he thankfully returned.
Then Professor McGonagall entered and the class fell silent. She started talking immediately.
"Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts. Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warned."
Then she said, "Now, who can tell me what is the meaning of transfiguration with examples?"
The class went even more quieter than before. It was clear she had stumped them with such a question on their first day. A few hands went up. There was an uncomfortable silence in which Professor McGonagall inwardly debated with herself on who should be given a chance.
"Ahem, yes Miss Weasley?"
"Transfiguration is magic which changes one object into another. It is possible to change inanimate objects into animate ones and vice versa. Some Transfiguration spells alter a part of something, such as changing a person's ears from normal into rabbit ears." Rose recited in top speed.
"Yes, very good. Ten points to Gryffindor", she said pleased.
Rose flushed. Then Professor McGonagall handed them each a match which they were supposed to be turning into a needle. At the end of the class only two people had succeeded. Rose and Scorpius. She gave them each ten points and then dismissed the class. As people got up. Rose and Scorpius looked at each other with intense dislike.
"I challenge you Weasley" Scorpius said.
"Challenge me for what..?" Rose asked suspiciously.
"Unless of course you are too scared to accept knowing that I'll win and hurt your dignity" He smirked.
"Oh really? Fine. What's your stupid challenge then?"
"Let's compete against each other. In all our classes. The person who answers first in every class wins.
"And what's the prize, huh?" Rose said smirking too. This was going to be easy. Too easy.
"The person who loses has to do whatever the other wants, for the rest of the school year. "
"Game on Malfoy"
"Prepare to lose Weasley"And they both exited the class, each muddled in their own thoughts.
