"How have you been?"
"How do you think I've been," he didn't want to snap at her but he happened before he could think.
"I don't know what it's like to be in a place like this, so I can't say," Taylor answered truthfully. Later, she would realize a sense of calm had laced her voice that had never been there before. She felt during this visit that it wasn't the time for jokes or jabs. Henry fell silent once again, and she let out a breath.
Let him know you're not against him.
"You know all those missing kids?" Not the best start, she thought but continued, "I know it wasn't you." His head and attention perked up to look at her, and she could sense how shaky he was.
Her head slightly tilted to the side. "The losers weren't the only ones facing off that clown. I know about it too and I know you're not crazy," she paused. "Well, maybe a bit, but aren't we all?" A grin crossed his face. Weirdly, that one little thing made her feel accomplished.
