"Crash cart in room 237! Now! Quickly! We're losing her!"
I close my eyes to the thoughts and voices I swear I can always hear from the hospital staff. Even when I'm miles away from it. It comes with the whole growing up in a hospital thing. That's what happens when two doctors make boom boom and end up with a kid.
That kid being me, Sydney Palmer.... Palmer- Strange technically.
But who cares about that guy? Am I right?
I have a workoholic non existent father and a mother who works a lot but always makes time for me. She's the best.
I order the tacos from the food truck about a block from the hospital my parents work at. Lunch with my mom is a daily occurence when I have time off from my college classes. I should be be done with college within a year, I took college classes while I was in high school and I only need 20 more credits to graduate.
I grab the big bag of tacos and little hot sauces and walk to the hospital. I enter the surgical floor and I see my mom scrambling around like usual. I smile from a distance and sit at the nurses station. Nurse Kate says "Hey kiddo, how's school going?"
"Good. About to graduate. I'm gonna go for masters though."
"Are you thinking Med school next?"
My eyes wander to my dad's name on the surgical board and I say "I don't think so. I'm not sure yet. Might go for a double major."
She nods and says "Your mom has an emergency trauma case that just came in but she should be done with it within an hour."
I nod and say "That's fine. I'll just eat without her."
"Your father just finished his craniotomy if you'd like to spend some time with him."
I laugh and Kate laughs too.
"Funny one Kate."
"Hey maybe he'll give you a hundred if you tell him you lost another tooth."
I shake my head and say "He's a doctor. He's not stupid. I'm 18, it's abnormal for adults to lose teeth."
"Maybe if he's paying enough attention he'll notice."
I nod and say "I think you gotta go help in room 404. The thingy is blinking green."
