"Sydney Christine Palmer. Wakey wakey."
I open my eyes to my mom's face right above mine. I yell and we smack foreheads.
We both groan and rub our foreheads. She says "It's like midnight what are you still doing here?"
"Well, I originally brought tacos for lunch and then Stephen came around and I let him eat a taco. Then he bailed and I was going to wait for you after your emergency patient. Kate and Whitney kept saying you were almost done and then I fell asleep."
She rubs her forehead and says "Well, I'm glad you're here. I missed you so much!"
"You saw me this morning mama bear."
She laughs and squeezes my cheeks. "Yes but I can never be away from you for longer then a few hours. Call it seperation anxiety."
I shake my head and say "I've got your tacos in the fridge."
She woot woots and does a little dance. "Yes!"
She dances over to the nurses fridge and I go into a fit of giggles as I smile at her antics
She holds the bag of tacos up triumphly and plops down beside me. She pats her lap and says "Miss Syd come sit on mama's lap."
I laugh and say "No thanks mom."
"Commeeee onnnn. Please? You aren't too old for some quality time with your mom are you?" She gives me the guilt with her sad expression and I sigh
I groan and get up. She pats her lap and pulls me onto her lap.
She eats her taco while I rest the back of my head to her shoulder as she leans back in the seat. She says "So, how were classes today?"
I groan and say "I didn't want to log in to the lectures today but I did."
"I'm glad you did. How's the... medical school going?"
I laugh and say "It's going well."
"You're such a little dougie howser."
"I'm not 14 and working in a hospital."
"Gah you'll be an adult before I know it. Stop you're making me feel old."
I smile to her and say "You had me at a very young age. You might just be dumb not old."
She gasps and says "You brat!"
I laugh and she laughs with me. "Mom? Do you think grandma would buy me that new bag?"
She says "No."
"Oh come on! She loves shopping."
"Like she needs to spend any more money on you, she literally just bought you a new wardrobe. After I specifically said no."
