Mom walks out of the doors with a small grin and I perk up in my seat.
I sit up and she walks towards me. She extends her arms, wrapping them around me as she falls on me as I remain seated in the chair
"Christine, you okay?" My grandma asks
"Yeah. I'm okay, Mom. Sydney just saved someone's life with her resilence to not obey the rules."
I smile and Mom hugs me tightly, kissing the top of my head "My Dougie Howser."
I grumble saying "I am not-"
"I mean, I wouldn't call it too far fetched."
"Dad.. Hi."
He nods to me saying "Nice save, syd."
"Thanks."
Grandma says "Stephen." Dad looks over to her saying "Rosie. Hello. How are you today?"
She sighs and says "I'm well. I'd be better if my granddaughter wasn't obligated to stay in this hospital all the damn time just to spend some time with her parents."
"Oh.. I-"
I sigh saying "It's a choice Gran."
She shakes her head and mom kisses my cheek multiple times happily
Mom sighs saying "We just need to tell the patients family that he lived and then I will be free to eat chow mein and watch american idol with you, syd."
I smile and say "I'll call the dumpling shop too. Get like triple the size of the order this time."
"God those sound so good."
Grandma says "Stephen, are you joining them tonight?"
Mom and I look to Grandma confused and slightly annoyed. He's never joined in on our nights like those.
He shakes his head saying "No, I actually have to speak at a gala tonight. They're awarding me or something of those sorts."
I roll my eyes and Grandma says "Well, congratulations Stephen."
Mom rolls off me groaning saying "Stephen let's go."
She continues walking away and he follows her as they go to speak to the family. Grandma says "You know, it isn't normal for a child to be in a hospital so often. You are more susceptible to sicknesses being here."
My eyes widen at her complaining as she continues going on and on as mom completes the whole part about telling the family he's alive finishes quickly.
I watch her hug the patients family and my dad step away as they go in to hug him
