Each Hogwarts house has its own colors. Gryffindor's colors are maroon and gold, and while this is great, there's less attitude in this combo. Silver and emerald seem classic, though. Coupled with the Slytherin's love for things that are a bit macabre, if you're a Slytherin you'd probably be proud of using a bright green robe whenever you had a chance.
That, or you could always wear black in order to compliment your house's colors. Plus, did you ever notice how Slytherins dressed in the films? Sure, not all of us were the greatest people, but we were always well-dressed.
