I ran my fingers through my red hair and sighed in frustration as Kalen glared at me and the new girl ignored both of us. Every time one of us spoke she just softly laughed, covering her mouth with her hands. I looked over at Les, who was on her side laughing hysterically. I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Mr. Day, why don’t you go take a walk and enjoy this beautiful morning.” I felt my eye twitch as Nurse Kelly’s voice radiated my ears. I just rolled my eyes and scoffed.

“I think I’m fine sitting right here.” I glared at her as she simply shook her head. The new girl just kept write down things on a small note pad as Nurse Kelly requested it. I leaned in,

“You don’t have to do that you know.” I whispered. She looked over at me with a confused look as Nurse Kelly pinched her nose.

“Leave her alone Sage, you’re just trying to fuck her.” Kalen sneered. I flipped him off,

“And why are you here? You never used to take interest in the newbies, why now?” he just rolled his eyes,

“Please, not everyone has sex on their minds.”

“That is enough, both of you go, leave the child alone.” Nurse Kelly got up and shooed both of us away from the bench.

As we walked away I softly shoved Kalen, knowing it would provoke him. Sure enough he tackled me, grabbing my neck with his bony hands.

“Come on!” I shouted, “Is that all you have!” I glanced around, seeing everyone eyes on us. Soon enough the men in white came and pried him off of me.

“Aw, but we were having fun” I said propping myself up with my elbows. They both lifted him off the ground as he kicked and flailed for a short while, then just bursting into a fit of laughter as they started walking back towards the door.

Nurse Kelly charged over to me, grabbing me by my arm and hoisting me up.

“Whoa there Nurse, don’t you think you’re a bit old to be rough housing.”

She kept silent as she forced me to walk towards the door. I glanced over at Les as she just shook her head, trying not to laugh. I winked at her as I passed the threshold.

She brought me to the nurse’s station, making me sit down on an uncomfortable wooden chair as she told another nurse to get a form.

She then turned to me with a heavy sigh. Her arms were crossed and her empty eyes were staring at me. I shifted uncomfortably but I wouldn’t let it show, I just kept staring at her.

“Why do you constantly do these things Mr. Day?”

“I thought it was the doctors job to ask those kinds of questions.” I said with a raise of my eyebrow.

She sighed again, pinching her nose. “you will be confined to your room for the rest of the day.”

I slumped down in the chair and laughed.

“yes, my plan is going perfectly.” I said under my breath. To be honest I was already tired of being around others and would love to just be alone. Though that’s what the doctor calls ‘destructive behavior’ which makes no sense really, how is wanting to be alone destructive?

“Excuse me?” she said narrowing her eyes.

“Nothing nothing,” I said crossing my arms. She just shook her head, already tired with all of us, and it isn’t even noon yet.

“Nurse Val, please take Mr. Day to his room.” the other nurse tried to help me up but I snatched my arm away and got up by myself, walking out of the nurses’ station with one final glare at Nurse Kelly.

I walked over to the boy’s hallway with the other nurse walking beside me. I saw the two security guards fighting with Kalen to get him into the boy’s solitary confinement room. They must not have thought to give him the tranquilizer.

Kalen bit one of their hands and they dropped him onto the hard linoleum floor. When he tried to get away one of them grabbed his leg and he fell forward. They dragged him back over to the room’s door as he began to yell. The one who grabbed his leg now grabbed his arms and slammed him against the wall trying to immobilize him.

The nurse who was next to me was now gone, and I assumed to tell Nurse Kelly what was going on. Kalen kept fighting, spiting in their faces and kicking them anywhere he could.

I started walking over to them and one of the Men in white walked towards me, telling me to stop where I was. His friend kept having trouble as Kalen kept slipping out of their grasp. He now was bleeding from his nose and lip, but it didn’t stop them from continuing to use such forceful methods to get him into the room.

I heard the sound of heels and I turned around to see Nurse Kelly and Nurse Val walking over, a needle in Kelly’s hand. Kalen looked over, seeing the same thing. He began yelling louder and kicking as hard as he could. I just stood and watched, seeing the petrified look on Kalen’s face.

One the shot was administered his kicks and screams stopped and the Men in white were able to put him into the padded room.

Nurse Val put her hand on my arm and pushed me towards my room door, but my eyes were locked on the metal door. Reluctantly I ended up in my room, the door closed and locked behind me.

These people were not humane, or merciful. Those thugs could have told the nurses they needed the tranquilizer, but they enjoyed beating up one of us.

I felt anger surging up inside me, this place was no hospital, it was a prison, where they hold people against their will, and tortured them.
