Chapter 1

Snacks scattered the floor of my room from the movie marathon of Harry Potter that occurred the entire day and a half, just barely managing to finish all the movies in the series. I lean against my bed with a relaxing sigh as Ryujin and Kai follow suit. This day couldn't have been any better.

"Can't believe we finished all those movies," Ryujin says leaning against me, "what time is it even?"

"11:55!" Huening Kai exclaims with wide eyes, "it's almost your 16th birthday!"

"Ah! This is so exciting!" Kai and Ryujin shout at the same time before gasping, "Jinx! Jinx, again!"

I chuckle at their antics before glancing over at the clock, seeing it's true that there are only five minutes left until my 16th birthday. I tap my foot against the floor anxiously knowing that soon I'll have my soul mark. Soon I'll know how many soulmates I have or if I even have any. Oh my god, what if I have none? What if I'm a void? Before my mind spirals too far off, a hand holds my foot down with a roll of his eyes.

"I'm gonna break your foot if you tap it one more time," Kai teases as I scratch the nape of my neck in embarrassment.

"Sorry Kai, I'm just-"

"We know you're anxious but you've gotta calm down. Nothing bad is going to happen to you! You should be more excited than nervous Y/n," Ryujin says with a sweet smile.

I take a deep breath, "you're right." I look up at the clock again, seeing now that there are only 3 more minutes until midnight. I wonder what my soul mark will look like, I've seen so many different ones. I smile to myself finally starting to get excited thinking about what kind of design my soul mark will have.

"I hope mine is as cute as yours," I mutter out looking over at Ryujin who has two small hearts swirling around each other on her wrist.

Kai lets out a scoff and shows off his wrist with his soul mark, "mine is way better, Y/n!"

I let out a chuckle of endearment at Kai's antics while he pouts pointing at his soul mark, "your soul mark is just as adorable Kai!"

He puffs out his chest proudly at the compliment when looking at his soul mark that has five different types of jewels. Although only one of them is colored since he's only met one of his soulmates so far. I glance between their two soul marks hoping mine will be just as pretty. The design should depend on how many soulmates you have but I've never seen an ugly soul mark. But I'll love mine no matter what.

"One minute!" Kai exclaims with wide eyes looking over at me who smiles back seeing his pure excitement.

"Any birthday wishes?" Ryujin asks with shining eyes, making me pause for a second. I never thought about what to wish for at midnight.

I stare at the clock watching it go down to 30 seconds. A wish? What should I wish for? I sigh quietly to myself feeling slightly stressed suddenly feeling the need to come up with my birthday wish. Why didn't I think of this before?

"10 seconds!" Ryujin says, watching the clock like a hawk.

Both her and Kai stare at the clock, never letting their eyes leave it and begin to count down,

I wish to meet all my soulmates this year!

I keep my eyes closed, too scared to look and gasp at the feeling of a stinging sensation on my wrist exactly the way Kai and Ryujin described how they felt when getting their mark. I slowly open my eyes knowing that my sleeve is covering my wrist but I just can't seem to get myself to move the fabric of my sleeve back. What if it was my mind playing games with me? What if it's not there?
