Gionni Lawrence Brewster
{Four Days Later July 26, 2021}
Disappointment had been written all over my mothers face as she opens her house door. She wraps her silk pink robe around herself more, leaning against the door, watching me as if she was a hawk and I had suddenly become her prey of the day. " What in the world had you been thinking Gionni Xavier Brewster ?" I knew it was bad when she used my full government name.
" About what ?" Her soft pink lips smack together. Her facial expression changes to one that's too serious, I think all mama's have this look on lock down when their child is acting a fool or even crazy. " Little boy do not play with me. Why in the world would you go on television and embarrass that sweet girl like that ? Since the moment I met her she's done nothing but want to be the best mother ever. Do you know how lucky you are GG ? There are plenty of women who would milk your pocket until their dry all because you got them pregnant but not Chi." She places her hand onto her face. " Lord I can't imagine what that poor girl must be going through."
My mother slowly opens the door wider. " Get your butt in here. And no you can not get your favorite ice cream since you wanna show your true colors on television."
It hurts hearing the let down in her voice. My mother had automatically taken a liking towards Chi. They had a great bond, a better bond than Chi and I even do. I guess that's motherhood coming together or something.
I hadn't been surprised at all to see that her living had been changed around. My mother was crazy about making sure things were changed up in the house. Almost every week I was being forced to change my room around that's how bad it was. I picked up a bit on that myself by being forced into it.
I take a seat on the brown leather couch. My mother takes her favorite chair that gave her a great view of the living room. She picks up her mug, that had been steaming. " That's coffee?"
" Yep." She says watching me over the rim before taking two sips and placing it back down. " Back to the matter at hand. What would even possess those words to fly out your mouth ? Just because it's maybe the truth doesn't mean you had to dish it out the hard way and those people didn't need to know either. In almost all the rest of your interviews you felt uncomfortable talking about her you could have said ' aye naw next question'." I hide the smirk that played on my lips when she tried to copy my voice and style.
" Gionni, I'm not being funny." Again she reaches for the mug, this time sitting it on her lap. " You hurt that girl feelings to the core."
" How would you know ma ? I mean have you even talked to her I mean like really talked to her ? She's not an open book around me." Hysterically she raises her hands. " Of course she won't. I wouldn't either. You made it programmed into her head that she had to go through pregnancy alone. She's embarrassed to have even opened her legs up to you." My lips twist into a frown.
" Have you apologized yet? I shake my head no.
" Why ?"
" Because she doesn't wanna talk to me if it has nothing to do with Treasure. And believe me ma I've tried at least seven times. Chi, won't even look me in the face." A tsk sound comes from my mother. " My best advice is for you to keep trying eventually those walls will soon come crashing down. What you two need is time alone one on one."
" Ma I've tried that. Literally last week. She's so.." I couldn't even find the right words to describe Chi.
" She's afraid. She's afraid that you'll swipe her off her feet for her only to fall on her ass. I understand her very well. Like you said Gionni you never took her serious in the beginning, you thought she would just be ass when she turned into something more you began to hide and built up your own walls because your afraid was well." My eyebrows knitted together in confusion. " Afraid of what ? I have nothing to worry about."
