The sun is blinding my damn eyes through my bedroom window and I soon hear my alarm go off on my phone. I let out a groan and turn to my side, stopping the alarm and looking through whatever notifications I have already. What does today have in store for me, I wonder.
One notification is a text from Jeremy, or Jinxx I should say, and one is a text from Aurora, Andy's sister. Her text is about a tattoo appointment she has planned with me in a few months. Sweet, she's cool with the sketch I made. A small smirk makes it's way on my face before I stretch and get myself off my bed. My phone starts buzzing again, Jinxx.
"Hey, what's up?" I yawn.
"Hey Scar, did I wake you up? My bad," his voice on the other line apologetic.
"No I was already just barely up, don't worry about it," I run my fingers through my hair, dragging my hair out to see it's length. Shit my hair grows fast. I guess I'll need to get to work on my hair within the next few weeks.
"I was calling because I know you plan on hopping onto some gigs for awhile and I was checking in on if you found a band or two to help out?"
"Oh yeah, I actually have something lined up for a couple months. Not sure how long I'll stay on though. It's uh," I fumble with my dresser drawer finding a pair of pants, " Motionless in White headlining. Maybe you've heard that they're going on tour with you?"
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah! Aurora's friends with a band photographer that's going to be on the tour with you all for awhile and without me asking she showed some of my work and recommended me for just general help, too."
"I'm glad you have something sorted out and that I'll be seeing you then," he chuckles, "Can't believe she pulled that for you. But hey, I'm sorry you had to leave the shop though."
I sigh and pause before replying, "Yeah. . . Me too. But I think it'll be good for me to get out of L.A. man. You know I love to travel and this will be the perfect way to do that for awhile and I can always start looking into the specifics for running my own place." I walk over to my closet, picking out a top. "And I'll be sharpening up my other lovely skill sets." I jokingly jab.
"I'm glad you're looking on the bright side, shit happens for a reason sometimes," Jinxx laughs on the other end. "I'll tell the guys you're all set, they were wondering, too."
"No kidding," I laugh. "Tell Andy he needs to reply faster and tell CC and Jake that I need their opinion on that riff I did. Again, your notes were very much appreciated Jeremy."
"No problem, it's nice hearing your riffs anytime. I'll let you go, did you need a ride to the venue later then? Doubt you want to drag your car on the road."
"Shit! I didn't even think about that. ." I bite my lip. "Aurora didn't exactly give me a heads up on who I'd be riding with on the road either."
"Hey I figured you'd forget something," Jeremy chuckles, "I'll give you a ride and help you grab your things. We can figure out if there's room for you on our bus later."
"Thanks, I owe you." With that, I will now owe Jinxx like four favors. He's too kind and honestly he's my best friend other than Aurora. I look over to my desk, photo frames sitting on the shelves and not many are from when I was young. The youngest you'll see me is 16 years old. And so goes the tale of being a loner since day one.
I was very young when my mother left. She promised she'd come back and gave the whole I'm sorry spiel and as a child, you want to believe your parents. I waited patiently and gradually lost hope, not fighting the facts too much. My dad got word over the years that I may have a half brother and he tried his best to reach out since I was my dad's only child. Try as he might, he never could quite get in contact with him. While I was intrigued by having a possible sibling, I didn't mind being an only child. Hell, I wasn't very sociable to begin with. I was very shy, so quiet that my presence could go unnoticed as a kid. A tale as old as time, that clearly only lead me to having a few friends and not many. But hell, it lead me to the right people.
I smirk at the photos of me with Andy and Aurora, adorned in face make up, and the photos with my dad at graduation, a photo of me and one of my only childhood friends left, and a scattered array of photos backstage, photos I shot myself, and photos of me with my grandparents.
I get dressed into my cropped tank top and throw on black jeans before heading out to brush my teeth. While looking at myself in the mirror I realize I should probably pack some jewelry for the road. The studs and rings for my nose, my earrings, some necklaces. . .
After brushing, I quickly wash my face and toss everything I used into my travel bag. My brain is fluttering around like a humming bird, making mental checklists as I go about getting ready and going through my luggage to make sure I'm not leaving anything behind. My phone goes off again, Aurora this time, apologizing for not giving me a heads up. Jinxx must have said something to her.
I take a look around my small apartment and let out a sigh. I'm not even sure if I want to come back to L.A. after this gig. But where the hell should I go if not here?
