WHENS.H.I.E.L.D. fell, the Avengers were left to their own devices. Most had some kind of life to go back to, whether it be a company or a job or a family. Others weren't so lucky. Without an organization to protect them, Natasha and Sasha were forced to assume brand new identities and figure out how to live untethered for the first time in their lives. And by taking in his daughter, Alex Carter, Steve was officially harboring a fugitive wanted by God knows how many governments. They had no choice but to stay under the radar too, establishing their own false identities with Natasha's help. It was the end of an era and the beginning of a whole new life.
NEARLY AYEAR later, the only thing the same about any of their lives is the team. In the wake of the revelation that Hydra is very much alive, the Avengers reassemble to take down its remaining members. Mission one: acquire the scepter Loki used during the 2012 Chitauri invasion. Once they have it, they have technology like nothing humanity's seen before at their disposal. But power is a double-edged sword. As beautiful as it is, there are few things more dangerous than power, especially when "power" is revolutionary technology. It's only a matter of time before the tide turns. Add the impending threat of Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, a set of powered twins hell bent on avenging the death of their parents at Stark Industries' hand, and the Avengers are going to need a lot of extra help. Unfortunately, the only extra hands floating around are an ex-child Hydra assassin with Captain America powers and a smart-mouthed, moderately unstable teenage genius trained by the same place that produced Natasha Romanoff, but there are no better options with S.H.I.E.L.D. disbanded. So much for that whole superhero team thing.
