When I woke up, Edward wasn't there, and I realized he wasn't trying to comfort me, he just wanted me asleep so he could leave peacefully.
My eyes were red from crying and sleep. I slowly got up, wrapped a blanket around myself, and walked to Edwards' balcony. The sun was high up in the sky, it was almost midday, the others must have left me at home and gone to school. I listen to the birds and the silent swish of the trees for a while before walking back inside.
I brush my hand along all Edwards CDS and tracks, taking time to stare at every framed picture. I didn't have enough strength left in me to cry. I walked downstairs, and into the kitchen. I found a bowl of fruit salad in the fridge, took a fork out of the sink, and walked outside.
I sat on our front steps, silently eating. Why didn't Edward care anymore? Maybe I'd done something wrong. I saw a blue and black bird swoop past me and into a tree, I watched carefully as it swiveled its head around, hopping lightly on the branches. In one small graceful glide, it traveled to the next tree. Without thinking I put my bowl down and walked into the trees, watching the bird the whole time. It flew deeper and deeper into the woods, I began to run after it, carefully dodging trees.
Suddenly I lost sight of the bird, I turned around a few times before hearing its call a few trees away. I ran towards the tree, but then heard the call behind me, and then to the left, and then the right. I cried out in frustration and collapsed on the ground. The bird then came to a stop on a low branch and looked at me expectantly.
"I'm not playing your game you silly bird!" I curse at it, only stopping when I realized I was talking to a bird.
The bird fluttered its wings as if to say it was okay with that, and flew off. I knew I was lost, but I didn't care, there was nowhere I was needed to be. I crawl and sit under a wide tree, catching my breath. I hear a stick crack somewhere in front of me. I stand up immediately and look around. I have a weird feeling in my stomach, and I take off running in the opposite direction.
I can hear something big running after me, and I swerve around trees trying to shake it off my tail, but it doesn't seem to work.
I start to run out of energy and something warm and furry pounces on me.
It snarls searching me up and down, the black figure pushes me against a boulder with its...paws? Oh, fuck- a werewolf.
"Please! I'm not a full vampire! Am I on your territory?- I'm sorry!" I cry out, not sure what else to do.
The wolf turns its head confused, walking in semi-circles around me. I keep my eyes on it, unsure what its intentions were.
Out of nowhere, it transformed into a human, and there was a naked man standing in front of me.
"Ahhh! Ewww! Naked person, ew, no!" I whine and cover my eyes. The man snarls and puts a pair of pants he was holding in his mouth on.
I peep to see if he was clothed and sigh with relief when I see he's wearing pants.
"Who the hell are you!" He growls, and I look him up and down.
"That's none of your business mutt!" I say defensively, imitating Rose's confidence.
"You're a vampire, but you smell different!" He says, approaching me.
"Yeah well, you smell like a sock!" He didn't, he smelt like leaves, but I said it anyway. Werewolves and humans don't have a distinct smell to me, but it seemed like an offensive thing to say.
The man looked at me, making me feel so small.
"Oi! stop staring at me dickhead!" I say, trying to gain confidence.
"Don't tell me what to do bloodsucker!" He snarled "What are you doing here! We agreed to no hunting here!"
"I don't hunt dumbass! I told you I'm half-vampire, who are you anyway, the wolf king!?" I joke, snorting at my own words.
"It's called an Alpha, bloodsucker!" He said, clenching his fists.
"Don't care, anyway, I'm not doing anything illegal so I'm going to leave.." I say, slowly sliding along the boulder.
"Hey! No!" The man grabbed me and slammed me back on the boulder.
"Ouch! Chill dude! Let me go! Who the hell do you think you are!" I say, dusting the soil off my hands.
"I already told you, I'm Sam the Alpha of the Quilutes!" He growled, "And your not leaving till you tell me what you're doing here!"
"Why do you care, its not your territory...is it?" I looked around, unsure where I was.
"No it's not, but that doesn't mean I can't be suspicious of you lot!"
"Fuck off then, I'll leave and we can forget this situation, I have better things to do than hang around with you-" Just then, another wolf, greyish black this time, appeared from behind the trees.
"Oh God, another mutt" I cursed, the wolf snarled and transformed into his human form.
"Ahhh another naked man, ew, no, ew" I covered my eyes again, almost throwing up in my eyes.
"This is the bloodsucker that could be a threat, Sam?" The other boy stifled a laugh, putting some pants on- to Rowan's relief.
"Yeah, caught her sneaking around the woods, Embry," Sam said, not taking his eyes off me.
"Sneaking around!? I was just going a god damn walk!" I shout at them.
"Really? since when do vampires go for walks?" Embry said, crouching down.
"Since me! When my brothers find out I'm here with you-" I start, only to be interrupted
"Well your brothers aren't here are they!?" Sam snaps, and I flinch. That hit hard, had Esme noticed I was gone yet. Had Alice seen me leaving? Did they care?
"Just let me go you freaks! I've done nothing!" I cry out, half begging them
Sam and Embry looked at each other before nodding, transforming into their wolves and running off into the woods. I sighed and looked around. If I went back now, they would smell the wolf on me and there would be more trouble. I didn't have the energy for trouble. I scaled a nearby tree, I couldn't see my house, but I could see a river.
I decided to head towards the river, trying to process what just happened.
