Carson made her way to the cath lab. She found herself a seat. There are fifteen new interns 8 of them are men and 7 are women.

"This is so exciting" said the girl who sat next to her. Carson was slightly startled. The girl's aura radiated all 'sunshine and butterflies'

She didn't bother to look at her and just focused in something else. Carson's mind was in chaos, she was thinking of so many things at the same time;

Her meeting Meredith Grey again

Stepping foot in this hospital again

Coming to this city again

And the fact that she's a Montgomery-Shepherd doesn't help

How would her fellow interns treat her, she was deep in her thoughts when Dr. Bailey cam in and stepped on the podium.

"Good morning to all of you, for those of you who don't know me I am Dr. Miranda Bailey, Chief of Surgery here in Grey-Sloan"

She looked at them one by one, until she was caught by Carson's image. She stared at her for a minute. Everyone was quiet. "Dr. Meredith Grey is supposed to be with you today, unfortunately she couldn't make it"

"She just got out of a 14-hour surgery this morning"

The orientation began and they started to tour the hospital. The interns and Dr. Bailey reached the OR, there Dr. Webber is waiting for them to deliver his famous speech.

"Each of you comes here today hopeful, wanting in on the game. A month ago, you were in med school being taught by doctors. Today...you are the doctors. The five years you spend here as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Look around you. Say hello to your competition. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play, that's up to you "

All the interns we're looking at each other, observing their opponents. "Thank you, Dr. Webber" Chief Bailey said. "Good luck on your first day" he said to the interns.

The interns went out of the OR heading to their lockers.

"Bailey" Richard called out. "Where's Meredith?" he asked

Dr. Bailey rolled her eyes. "She had a 14-hour surgery, she had to go home and when I paged her before the orientation, she didn't return my page" she was about to step outside then she stopped.

"And one more thing, Derek and Addison's daughter is here. She's an intern" Richard looked surprised. "The redhead" he replied, Bailey nodded.

"Little Red" Richard whispered.

The interns were busy preparing for their first day. "Hi" Miss Optimistic greeted Carson.

She gave her a mixed smile. "I'm Maya Ashton, are you?" Carson looked around to see if Maya was talking to anybody else, anybody at all.

She took a deep breath. "Carson" she replied. "Is that your first name or your last name?" before Carson could even talk Chief started to assign the interns to their respective residents.

"Ashton, Gomez, Kane, Danvers and—

She paused for a minute

"Shepherd" then she looked at Carson like a proud Auntie.

"Dr. Bailey with all due respect I'm not gonna be using Shepherd" Bailey raised her eyebrows confused.

"There's another Shepherd in the hospital and I - I just. Montgomery. I'm going to use Montgomery" she said firmly. "Ok then, now the rest of you, scut!" Bailey ordered.
