ON THE ROCKS

THAT MORNING

Meredith went home to see her kids preparing for school. "Mommy!" Ellis greeted her and gave her a kiss. Zola and Bailey came racing down the stairs. "Mom!" they both said and ran towards her giving her a hug.

They headed to the kitchen where the baby sitter is preparing the kids' breakfast. "Dr. Grey, good morning" she greeted. "Hi, Justine. Good morning, thank you for looking after the kids. Can you take them to school? I have to go back to hospital

"Sure" she replied. "Finish your breakfast" Meredith said.

"Where's Aunt Amelia and Aunt Maggie?" Zola asked. Meredith took a while to respond. "Mommy? Are you okay?" she asked.

Meredith looked at her and said "Yes. Amelia and Maggie are at the hospital. Amelia is preparing for surgery and Maggie is on call"

"When are they gonna visit?" Bailey asked. "I don't know. I'll ask them, okay?" Bailey nodded and proceeded to finish his pancakes.

Amelia and Maggie no longer live with Meredith. They both have their own places and it's been a while since they visited the kids.

A few minutes more, the kids finished their breakfast and went to school. Each of them gave Meredith kisses before they went out. Meredith waved goodbye until the car turned around the block.

Meredith locked the door and went back to the table and sat down. She could not believe she met Carson again.

She couldn't help but remember what happened when she first met Carson years ago.

YEAR '06

She got so upset meeting her and ran away from Derek. Addison was surgery that time and Meredith left Derek to talk to her.

Derek called her saying he lost Carson. They both started looking for Carson. "Hey" Cristina bumped into frantic Meredith. "What are you looking for?" she asked

"Carson" she said while opening the doors of the stock room. "Carson? The Carson? Carson as in Derek and Addison's Carson?" Meredith gave her the look. "Oh, how? Why?" Meredith was still turning the floor upside down.

"She got upset. She met me" she said. "It's your fault"

"Hey!" Addison came out of nowhere. "You okay? Where's Derek and Carson?" she asked innocently.

"Have you found her?" Derek also came out of nowhere shocked seeing Addison. "Found who?" Addison asked, she noticed Carson is not with Derek.

"DEREK CHRISTOPHER SHEPHERD, WHERE THE HELL IS MY DAUGHTER?"

They were run walking flipping every gurney and table they could see. Opening every door they could find. "I can't believe you lost her! I left her to you for not even half a day and lost her!"

"I'm sorry okay! She was upset. You know how she gets. I don't get her" he replied. "Of course, you don't get her. If bothered to come home often when she was growing up you would"

The whole hospital started to look for Carson. "Richard, call a code pink now!" Addison commanded

He looks at her. "Please, Richard. She's my baby girl. I don't know what I'd do if something happens to her. I swear if something happens to her..." she looks at Derek

Richard reached the phone. "This is the Chief; I'm calling a code pink. Lockdown the entire hospital premises. We have a lost kid. A redheaded kid, Carson Montgomery-Shepherd"

After another 30 minutes they still couldn't find her. Richard went to the helipad to check.

As soon as the elevator opened, he saw a little kid on the edge of the railings. "Carson!!!" he shouted. He ran towards her and carried her down. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "What are you doing up here? How did you get up there?" He asked her worriedly.

His soul might have just left his body for seconds there. His heart was still thumping.

She looked at him. "I was upset with my Daddy, I needed to go away for a while" she said. Richard's brows raised

"You are one scary kid" he said. Taking her arm. "Are you okay now? Can we go back to your mom? She's so worried about you" she just nodded.

"Can I have ice cream?" she asked.

"Sure. You can have ice cream Little Red" Carson smiled.

The elevator opened and Addison saw Carson with Richard. All of them were relieved when they saw Carson. Derek opened his arms for her but she chooses to go to Addison's arms. "Baby, where have you been? I was so scared"

"She was in the helipad, sitting on the edge of the railings" Addison's eyes widened. "OLIVIA" she said.

"She was upset" Richard added. "I was mad and I felt like I was going to explode. I'm sorry, Mommy" she said.

"DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME CARSON?" Addison said and hugged her again.

After that incident, Addison refused to leave Carson alone with Derek. Most of the time Carson never wanted to see her dad. She was so upset with him.

He promised her that they'd be back to normal, be a family again.

Derek and Addison had a hard time explaining to Carson why they can't be together anymore. This affected Carson's relationship with her dad.

REAL TIME

After reminiscing the events of meeting Carson for the first time, Meredith finished her coffee and went to her room.

She sat on her bed for a long time. She kept thinking of Carson. She wasn't so sure so what to feel towards her. Carson hated Derek of being with her. Derek lowkey blames her for a span of time because his daughter hated him and Meredith hated herself for putting a little girl in a situation, she was once in.
