_________________"We finally out this miserable ass place for a li while. You excited?" I smiled pushing open the big school entrance doors then glancing over at my best friend, Kayla.
"Duh Imani. What type of question is that, it's finally summa. You staying withco dad like last year?" She held her hand over her forehead blocking out the sun as we walked out onto the parking lot.
"Mhmm" I hummed looking around for my mom's black Benz truck. "But you know that you could come over anytime" I added on, my eyes finally landing on her car.
"Uh-huh. Your mom here? Mykel parked in the senior parking lot."
"Yea she's here, love you. Text me when you get home so I can know you made it safely" I walked closer to her and hugged her before pulling back. Never know when it's going to be the last time you see someone.
"Love you too mani"
Spotting me as I walked closer to the parked Benz that blared 2000's R&B songs. A Kool-Aid smile crept across her face as she unlocked the doors. Latching on the handle I pulled it open.
"Ooh, child! Look at my soon-to-be sophomore. How you feeling?" She stared at me putting my seatbelt on.
"Momma— i'mma junior! But I'm happy that it's over with. Don't gotta wake up at 6 am no more" I told her taking a root beer Dum-Dum out my jacket pocket.
"Shit not me Jania Meshell. Now you 'bout to go with your dad and his family. With their ugly asses," She started the car and pulled off sucking her teeth in the process.
"I'on know about the other one but my dad is never ugly. Plus me and him look alike so what are you really tryna say?" I frowned holding my left hand over my chest acting fake hurt.
"You a lie just like your daddy. Got my whole face"
"Alright, nene" I joked.
Glancing over at me she reached over the cup holder attempting to pop my thigh but I was too quick with it.
It's 10:10, where you been?
Did you get my message?
(Your expression is telling me that you've been thinkin' the same thang)
The same thang I've been thinkin'
You say you're working
Well hit me just as soon as your shift is over
And I'll be waiting, cause I can't sleep for reminiscingThe rest of the ride back home was kind of a relaxing-soothing atmosphere since I could kick up my feet for the months to come.
"Hurry up and get your funky behind in the house so you can pack your bags before Kentrell gets to calling me asking where y'all at" She fussed as we both got out of the car.
