The kitchen was on 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲. Mason must've left the stove on before he went . I nervously runned to the bed, and started shaking Mason aggressivly. He didn't wake up, he was in deep sleep. The fire was spreading fast. I had no other option. I lifted him up, and held him with an arm, close to my chest.

"LEAH GET UP!!!" I yelled.

She did what I said without a word. When she had seen the fire, she started crying, and she got scared. I held her with my other arm. I whistled two times in a high tone. For dogs, that would normally mean to come/follow their owner, that's what I saw in movies. Thankfully, it worked. Molly jumped off the bed, and runned next to me with her tiny paws. But when I wanted to get out, the door got stuck.

"UGH!! JUST OPEN ALREADY!!!"

I couldn't open it, I was too weak. Only one thing I could do left. I took a deep breath, and screamed.

"SOMOENE GET US OUT OF HERE!! PLEASE?!?"

Suddenly, the whole door had fallen over. Felix Wilson banged inside.

"WHAT'S GOING ON?!" he asked.

The moment he looked at the room behind me, which was all burning now, he grabbed Mason and Leah from me.

"LET'S GO" he said.

The halls were on fire. As we were running to the exit, I just remembered.

"I'll be right back" I said, and started running the opposite direction from where the exit was, and Molly runned behind me.

"EVELYN!" he yelled, when I was already gone.

I runned to Mr. Houston's office, and that's where I found him. I walked up to him, and said;

"Mr. Houston, I need the keys to my aunt's cell. It's a death threatening emergency."

"Haha good one. Your aunt still needs to stay here a bit longer." he said jokingly.

"Look, I'm a person who doesn't joke about things like that. I'm serious. Give me the keys, we don't have much time." I said with a straightened face.

"Wait, are you serious?" he asked.

"Absolutely. It goes for everyone's lives." I said.

"Fine, I'll give them to you, but you need to tell me the reason first.".

I looked behind me. Smoke was running wildly under the door into the office.

"There's a fire. The building will collapse."

He got up, throwed all of the keys on a table, and runned out of the office.

"OH HELL NAH!!" he yelled from the back.

Rude enough.

I took the keys, and runned to aunt Jen's cell. She was sitting on a metal bench. When she saw me, she asked;

"Evelyn? What are you doing?"

"We need to go, fast." I said panickly, while trying all the keys, one by one. But none of them would open the door, until I found the right key. Finally, the cell door opened, and aunty came out.

"Evelyn, what's going on dear?" she asked, while hugging me.

"There's a fire, the building is gonna burn down. I had to come back for you!" I cried.

"What!? Come on, let's go!" she said.

When we were searching for a safe exit, we saw Mason infront of us. He looked at me, and runned to me, hugging me tightly.

"THANK GOD YOU'RE OKAY!! FOLLOW ME, I KNOW A WAY OUT!" Mason said.

There were flames rising all around us. Mason started running, and we were right behind him.

When we got out of the building, I looked behind me. The whole place was already set on fire. We got out in the last seconds.
Soon, we met up with Felix and Leah, who were wating for us outside.
Leah, crying, was hugging Felix in fear. When we came, Leah runned to me in tears, hugging me tightly. I was holding her with one hand. I was carrying my dog, Molly, with the other arm. Mason was standing right next to me on my left, and aunty was standing on my right side. Felix looked at me with his green-ish eyes, shining brighter than the stars at night.

"Is anyone hurt?" Felix asked.

We all looked at eachother.

Mason was about to announce something, but Jen interrupted him;

"I don't think so. Everyone made it out safely."

"Good" Felix then said. After that we all went silent.

"Do you think that anyone else might have survived..?" Mason asked, worried.

"I'm not sure, but I did see your father when searching for my aunt." I said.

"Do you think he made his way out?" Mason asked.

"I hope so." I said. We were all quiet for a while again, and I saw Mason and Felix looking maddly at eachother. I doesn't seem that they have a 'friendly' relationship.

"Who or what did set up the fire, anyways?", my aunt asked. Everyone was quiet, until I spoke up;

"I- It's all my fault. Mason was cooking on the stove, and I disturbed him. I told him to take a nap, and we forgot to turn off the stove. I'm sorry, I really am!".

"It's not your fault, I should've turned it off, it's my fault!" Mason protected me. While we were fighting about who's fault was it, aunt Jen interrupted;

"Guys, what happened is a part of the past now. We need to focus on our future. Is there anybody here who doesn't have a place to stay at?" she said. Leah raised her hand, saying;

"Me! Me! Me!".

Shortly after her, Mason also slowly lifted up his hand.

"I lived at the police station with my father. Our previous house got burned down by one of my father's enemies, but we thankfully escaped."

Mason explained.

I just realized that Mason was holding the upper part of his right arm with streinght.

"Mase, are you okay?"

"I think I might've burned myself while searching for you back there.."

"WHAT?!"

He took off his hoodie. There was a black stain on his loose white T-Shirt.
I put my dog down on the fresh grass, and let go off Leah. I rolled up the sleeves of his T-Shirt. There was a pretty big burn on his arm.

"Ow!"

"Mason you're hurt badly !! We must get medical help!! Somoene call 911, the burn is very serious"

"Evelyn, there's no need, don't worry" he said, trying to calm me down.

How could I not notice this before? Stupid me!

"You two can live with us! We have a huge amount of space in our house." aunt Jen said, while Mason was putting his upper clothing back on.

Felix's car was still parked infront of something, that used to be a building, so he drived back home by himself.
The rest of us went to a near by bus station, since our solution was to get in a bus, back home.

When we got home, the front door was slightly open. Something's not right. Mother always locks the door.
"Auntie, could you wait outside the house with Molly and Leah for a minute, please?" I asked. She confusingly looked at me.
"This girl's name is Leah, and the dog is called Molly. Make sure they're quiet." I explained. She nodded, and then I went inside with Mason by my side. We searched up most of the house, and it was empty. But when we went to the kitchen, we saw a man covered in black clothes, pointing a gun at my mother. We hid behind the wall, so they couldn't see us. What's going on? Is she gonna die? Where is Avery? Who is that guy?
