The only thing that Sofi could think of as she felt the machine pressed against her head release its tight grip was the fact that her sister had died because of HYDRA.
She choked back tears, feeling like she couldn't support herself any longer.
And it all felt a hundred times worse as Sofi realized all those years of her repressing memories had only caused to pain to be unleashed a hundred-fold.
Her chest ached and her head throbbed.
'Why didn't she tell me?' That was the main question that kept circling around in Sofi's mind, unanswered.
With a pang, Sofi began to realize that perhaps learning this secret and having to live with the fact that they were experiments, sold to HYDRA before they were born, was why Selene went on her killing spree later on. Perhaps it was her way of coping.
Selene had had to deal with this on her own for so many years. Maybe death even came as a relief. A permanent ending to all of this madness.
"Sir," someone's voice crackled over the walkie-talkie that Karpov had clipped to his vest, "We've got a security breach on the East Wing. Should I engage?"
Karpov looked at the time, surprised, "Engage. Aim to kill."
He turned to look at Sofi, "My, these Avengers certainly do care about you, don't they?"
Sofi felt the familiar surge of rage at the words Avengers, her typical fight or flight instinct kicking in.
Karpov brightened at the sight. "It's still been drilling into you, hasn't it, soldier?"
He slowly began to unlock the cuffs and with each click, Sofi felt the rush increase in her. The adrenaline was coursing through her veins.
Sofi sat up as the last cuff was released and Karpov, carefully eyeing her, began to back away.
"Soldat!" Karpov commanded.
"Ready to comply," Every inch of Sofi was aching to attack, to fight. She needed to kill to satisfy her bloodlust.
"East wing! Go!"
Sofi sprinted to the East Wing. It was only about a minute away from where she was now and she figured that the Avengers had put a tracker on her.
Fury bubbled inside of her. How dare they track her like that? How dare they assume she would betray them like that?
But then Sofi realized that she had and she laughed softly to herself.
It was because Bucky had killed her sister though, Sofi was convinced. Her actions were the only right course to take. HYDRA had been her savior to allow her to finally see that.
Sofi had been blinded for so long that she couldn't believe how clear everything was now.
She located the aircraft in the sky. A Quinjet.
Bullets were getting fired from below, where Sofi was. She nodded at a soldier to the right of her, ignoring his shocked and awed expression when he recognized her.
The Quinjet was firing back but it seemed to have no intent to kill. Sofi guessed this was because she was still here.
The aircraft was beginning to circle around, getting lower and lower to the ground.
Sofi grinned as she watched the Avengers begin to jump off. Nat stuck her signature landing, all dressed up in her tight black suit. She sported a long, French braid.
Besides her, the Hulk was smashing people with his giant, green fists, stomping on them like they were nothing.
Above, Tony was flying around in his Iron Man suit, firing at he soldiers below.
