Charles' POV

There she is again Charles thought to himself. I think her name is Jane, if only she were not a lower class woman. Charles would admire Jane from his Castle windows; he had been doing this for some time now.

"Sir I have brought your...." Charles backed away from his window in shock after Jacob his faithful servant interrupted him. "Beg your pardon Sir, I did not mean to interrupt"

"It's quite alright, I was just getting some fresh air" Charles lied.

"Well then, here are your garments" Jacob said while carefully placing them on Charles' bed.

"Thank you"

Jacob bowed and began to walk out of the Princes chambers. "Oh and the King would like to see you as soon as possible" he said before leaving the room.

Charles got dressed and made his way to the Kings Courtroom. "Ah son, I have some news for you" The King bellowed out "Your cousin, Eleanor is coming to stay with us"

"Excellent, for how long might I ask?" Charles returned in the same cheeriness the King had delivered it with. Charles and Eleanor were quite close acquaintances and would have been like by the King to be married if it wasn't for the proposal from the General of the Army who had got to her first.

"Well it is not certain but....."

"My King, this peasant girl has been caught stealing from the Bakery" A Guard interrupted.

"Oh?" said the King "And what proof do you have?" Charles couldn't help but notice something strange about this girl, like he had met her before.

"When she was confronted by Guards she ran away with a loaf in her hand" The Guard said.

"Well stealing is punishable by death" The King said "Woman what is your name?". The woman didn't answer.

"Answer the King!" the Guard yelled and shoved the girl to the ground. She landed and gasped in shock.

"My name is Jane" she answered. Suddenly it hit Charles; it was the girl he had been watching earlier down by the river.

Charles ran over to Jane and helped her up; he turned to the Guard and sternly said "There is no need to treat any lady like that" trying to make his point.

The King raised an eyebrow in suspicion but brushed it off straight away before continuing. "Jane, do you have anything to say that may help your accusation?" The King asked.

"I didn't steal anything, my Lord. It was a case of mistaken identity"

"I'm sorry Jane but with no proof how am I to believe you?" asked the King.

"You can't" Jane said losing all hope.

"Well in that case I sentence you to...."

"Wait!" Charles interrupted making the King, Jane and the Guard stare at him with shock. "She can be Lady Eleanor's servant girl, she is going to need someone to help her" Charles suggested.

The King thought for a minute before agreeing to the suggestion. "Thank you so much my Lord, I am forever grateful" Jane bowed to show her gratitude. Charles let out a sigh of relief; Jane was safe and now working in the castle walls.
