Charles and Me

Chapter 5

Finally the day has come! I thought to myself as I waited patiently for the arrival of Lady Eleanor. I perched myself at her bedroom window so that I may have a full view when she disembarks her carriage.

“The King requests you make your way to the courtroom immediately” One of the Kings servants informed me. I promptly walked towards the Kings courtroom and without hesitation I entered. I was shocked to see so many people including both Knights and servants waiting in the Kings court. Prince Charles was standing next to his father who was seated in is throne.

“Good day Your Majesty” I said and bowed. I joined Jacob on the left side of the room and awaited the King to speak.

“Now my niece will be arriving shorty, I expect you all to treat her as you would treat myself or the Prince” The King explained.

*Trumpets sound*

“Ah, that will be her now” announced the King. Suddenly I became nervous; What if she does not like me? I thought to myself. My thoughts were interrupted when a Sentry entered the room.

“Announcing Lady Eleanor De Borger” the Sentry introduced. A beautiful woman entered the room and stood in front of the Sentry smiling at everyone. She had long, thick beautiful orange hair that only could be described as flames from a fireplace, skin that was fair and large blue eyes.

“Welcome my dear” The King said pleased to see his niece. He stood with his arms open inviting Lady Eleanor to hug him. Eleanor walked over to the King and embraced him in a hug.

“Uncle it has been too long” She replied cheerily.

“My goodness, you have grown so much!” He said holding her arms in front of her so that he may admire his niece. She shyly turned her head slightly and blushed at the compliment.

“Perhaps it is not me who has grown, maybe it is you who is shrinking!” she exclaimed, causing the courtroom to be in a fit of laughter. The King let go of her hands and returned to his throne. Charles walked towards Eleanor and also embraced her in a hug. She planted a kiss on either side of his cheek and returned to where Charles was initially standing.

“We are celebrating your arrival with a massive banquet” The King said turning towards Lady Eleanor.

“I look forward to it dearly, for it was a long journey and I am famished!” she replied.

“Marvellous” the King smiled, he sat back in his seat comfortably. “Jane” The King summoned. I left Jacob’s side and stood in front of the King “Eleanor this is Jane, she will be your servant”.

I bowed “It is an honour to finally meet you My Lady”.

She nodded her head towards me “Thank you, perhaps your first task could be  to show me to my chambers?”

“Of course My Lady” I half turned my body so that I was facing her sideways. She bowed to the King and followed me out into the castle halls. “How was your trip My Lady?”

“It was looong” she said emphasising the word ‘long’. “But you don’t have to call me ‘My Lady’ all the time. Please just refer to me as Eleanor” she said flashing me a smile.

“As you wish My La…Er I mean, Eleanor” I said smiling. We reached the large door and entered Eleanor’s chambers. Eleanor walked over to the bed and sighed deeply as she flopped onto the mattress.

“Ahh I’m so tired” She said.

“Well I believe dinner is at 6, so you have 5 hours to rest” I replied.

“Excellent” Eleanor said as she drifted off to sleep on top of the sheets. I draped a blanket over the top of her and put the remaining of her belongings away. I took one last glance at the sleeping beauty before leaving her chambers. As I slowly backed out of the door someone ran straight into me causing me to fall to the ground.

“I’m so sorry” the voice said.
