“Your head looks much better Jane” said Mary as we walked through the market streets. Lady Eleanor had insisted to have the day off while she was hunting with the King and Prince Charles.

“Yes, I agree” I replied cheerily, suddenly something caught my eye “Look at that gown” I said rushing over to a shop window. There on display stood a beautiful deep blue silk gown.

“It’s beautiful” Mary agreed “You should get it”. I looked at Mary with an expression of sadness.

“Remember Mary, I’m only a servant. I can’t afford something like that” I turned around and walked slowly away from the dress leaving Mary standing there. I turned to her “You coming?”

“Coming” she said before catching up to me.

The sound of horses whinnying and hooves beating against the stone pavement alerted me to the arrival of the King, Prince Charles, Lady Eleanor and a few of the Kings Knights. I watched from my bedroom window as Charles and Eleanor made their way up the castle staircase; their horses being taken to the Royal Stable. Only minutes later Eleanor entered the room in a fluster and collapsed onto her bed. She let out a very long and deep sigh “Long day My Lady?”

“Extremely long, I don’t even like hunting!” she exclaimed.

“Why go then?”

“I have a very pressing matter to ask of the King and I wish to remain in his good books” she explained; I detected a hint of excitement in her voice.

“May I dare ask, what is this pressing matter you speak of?” I asked curiously.

“You may think of me in a different manor if I told you” She said.

“I highly disagree” I said pushing the matter.

“Well… promise not to laugh?”

“Of course, I wouldn’t dare!”

“I want to ask the King to allow all the servants and staff in the castle to attend the Ball” she explained.

“But we will be there, to serve the guests” I replied.

“No you don’t understand!” she exclaimed “I want you all to be the guests!”

“My Lady that is an extraordinary idea but I’m afraid the King won’t allow it, there needs to be staff to serve the guests” I explained.

“I know how preposterous this must sound but believe me I have thought it through”

“Well I wish you luck” I said.
