Logan's POV
"Seriously? Again?" Duncan asked Chef as we stood in line to get our breakfast for the day.
And you know what the food was today? A breakfast taco. Just like yesterday, the day before that, and the entire week before this one.
"I think mine has mold on it." I lifted up the plate and observed my "food".
Sighing, Duncan and I made our way to the other contestants and sat down.
"Breakfast taco?" Harold murmured, bringing the taco up to his mouth. "Is that all Chef knows how to make now? Mexican-themed breakfast foods?" He took a bite and accompanied by it was a large crunching sound.
"I don't think scrambled eggs are supposed to be crunchy," I grimaced, dropping mine on my plate.
"Ew. Was that an eggshell?" Lindsay also cringed as Harold chewed.
"Chef is the only cook who makes eggs like peanut butter. Smooth or crunchy style," Harold responded. He stopped chewing and pulled out a hard drive from his mouth.
"Huh?"
"Maybe Chef finally ran out of stuff to put in the eggs, all he's got left is computer hardware," Duncan joked.
"What if there's something on it? Something all challenge-y?" Lindsay asked excitedly.
"Only one way to find out. Stick it in Courtney's PDA," Beth smirked. We brought our attention to the brunette who was engrossed in her PDA, at the other end of the table.
"My PDA isn't going anywhere near that goober-coated thing," she spoke in disgust. I snatched the device out of Courtney's hands when she tried to pull it close to her chest.
"Hey!" she called out as I sat down, handing Duncan the PDA.
"I thought you wanted to win this," Duncan said.
"Do what you have to do," Courtney sighed.
I grabbed the hard drive from Harold's hands and handed it to Duncan. He plugged it into the PDA, and Chris's face popped up on screen.
"I hope you all had a filling breakfast. It was so delish. I was practically on cloud nine. I could've had a dozen of them. Hehe," Chris chuckled. I carefully recited the information he gave us in my head. "But enough about breakfast. It's time to eighty-six this combination. Uh, I mean, conversation."
"So weird. I think maybe Chris needs a vacation." Beth commented.
"Right now, I'm going to relax in a nice safe and secure place. And get ready for today's challenge. You're probably wondering what the challenge is. It will remain a mystery until you find me. Hopefully, you'll clue in and track me down. But in the meantime, I'm going to crack open a soda and relax. See ya." The video shut off, and we sat there speechless.
"Unless there's a killer reward, I'm not gonna bother finding Chris. I could use a day off from that wiener," Duncan said, pointing at Courtney's PDA.
"I'm with Duncan. Let Chris wait for us," Harold agreed.
"Yeah, but maybe if we find Chris, he'll have some kind of surprise!" Lindsay responded. "Who doesn't love surprises?"
"Chris gives us great surprises," I mumbled with a dry nod, trying to figure out what Chris was inkling at.
What kind of challenge would involve cloud nine?
