massive clouds of steam rose into the air as scarred hands carefully and precisely ironed bone straight creases into the pants in front of him, a toothpick hanging from the corner of of a pair of thick full lips as he pushed up his reading glasses in concentration, determined to get that line just right, he needed to look his absolute best.

only once he was absolutely satisfied with the starched pants did he turn off the iron and lay his entire outfit out, choosing everything from the socks to the wife beater underneath his short sleeve button down dickies shirt. feeling proud of himself despite how irrelevant the accomplishment would be to anyone else.

this would be the first time he'd consciously gotten ready with a positive and healed headspace and he felt grateful to even have these small tasks to do for himself without feeling like a total failure.

"Connie!"

"CONNIE!"

the tall male had become so engrossed in his primping that he jumped at the sound of his name being called much louder than before, turning only to find his mother leaning against the doorway of his room.

"ah, shit- I mean, sorry mama what is it?" Connie nearly jumped out of his skin at the sudden surprise before catching the curse words that left his lips.

"boy, I know you heard me calling you, what's taking so long? Suni, don't you spill that dye all over my counters!- awwh you look good baby.

"t-thanks ma." her son mumbled blushing at her noticing all his hard work to look presentable as he fidgeting nervously while playing with his collar.
