I walked to Cam’s. He lives in a tiny apartment. I say tiny, 1 bathroom, 2 bedrooms and a kitchen.

He’s only a year older than me. He has a baby sister named Avaline. I walk in and lock the door behind me to see Jay. She loves Ava and usually watches her while Cam and I work. Jay’s 13. Too young to find a job here.

“Cassie!” Ava shrieks, well I assume she’s saying Cassie, before running towards me. I crouch down and pick her up as she runs into my arms now. Jay’s covered in bruises. Her step-dad, that bastard.

I put down my backpack. “How was work?” Jay signs. I sigh, “They keep trying to pry into my past and how I know Bucky. Pepper is amazing though. I love her.” I said as I walked to the kitchen, still carrying the 11 month old.

“Would you mind going to the grocery store?” Cam says, “Yeah of course. Do you have a list?” He hands me the list and 30 bucks. “Would you mind if I took Avaline?” I ask. “Go ahead.” Cam says and Jay signs. Jay can hear just fine but she’s mute. Cam and I learned sign language so we can understand and communicate with her. “Cool.” I grab a black empty backpack, to carry the groceries. “I’ll be back in an hour or so.” I say, closing the door behind me.

I walked to the grocery store, Ava clutching my hand as she walked. I grabbed a basket for the needed items. Ava can walk on her own so I secured her backpack leash. The leash is attached to her backpack. She can walk around but can only go a few feet before tugging on the leash that’s wrapped around my wrist.

A fourth of the way through our grocery run I find out that the Avengers are here. Steve, Nat, Clint, Wanda, and Pietro. Just my luck. At least Bucky and Tony aren’t here. “Cass!” Wanda says, spotting me in the aisle. Ava waves at Wanda. The group approaches Ava and I. “Is this your little sister?” Clint asks. “No, this is my friend’s little sister. She just wanted to come with me on the grocery run.” I say.

“Why do you have your friend’s little sister?” Steve asks. “Because I’m Ava’s favorite. I don’t kidnap children, Steve.” I say.

Ava runs up to me. “We should head back home for dinner huh?” She nods. “Well it was nice running into you guys-” Ava interrupts me, “Bye!” She says waving before running off. We checked out and walked home. I made sure we weren’t being followed. I’m not going to put it past them that they’ll follow me.

I picked Ava up and carried the groceries back to Cam’s apartment. “I’m back, idiots!” I called out as I opened the door. Jay took Ava from me and Cam took the groceries. “Alright, so what did you screw up?” I ask after putting the groceries away.

He pulls me to his room. “Okay look, I messed up Cass.” he says. “Don’t tell what you did. Tell me what I have to do.” I interrupt. He handed me a piece of paper. “A fight.” I nod, “Who?” I ask. “Hudson Meddlington.” I nod. I’ve seen them around. Big dude. Loves to get into fights. “How much did you bet?” I ask, “$150.” Okay not bad. Just enough to feed us for a few weeks! “When?” I ask. “Tonight at 9pm.” In 3 hours. I nod. “Don’t do this again you fu-” Someone knocks on the door. I bite my tongue, stopping any crude language from being spoken. I cuss a lot, but I don’t cuss around anyone 12 or younger.

Jay walks in carrying Ava. She just handed Ava to me and then walked away. I’ll just have to wait until Ava is asleep to blow up at Cam for being such an idiot. “I’ll deal with you later.” I walk out carrying the tiny human child.

In 3 hours, I put someone in the hospital or I’m dead. This should be fun. I fed Ava and put her down for a nap then headed to the gym.

If I yell Ava will wake up so I should just use my anger to train for the fight. I open the glass door. “Hey Chance.” I say, opening the door. “Cass. It’s been a while.” She says, “It’s been 2 weeks. I’ve been busy with school and work.” She nods. “Alright, you can use the room now.” she says as a dude walks out. I walk into the room. Mats, punching bags, it’s fairly spacious. Room for 150 standing grown men. I stretch out and then throw the punches. Right, left, undercut, left, undercut, right, I wish I could spar but I have no one to spar with. So for now, I’m just punching. Kick, undercut, left, undercut, right.
