The moment Arndolfr woke up the next morning, he immediately sat down by the desk beside his bed, took his journal from his bag and began to write.
Journal Entry # 653
Yesterday was so busy that I was unable to write anything, so I'm doing this the morning after.
I wasn't able to go through Viridian Forest immediately because there were people blocking the way. It was a wise decision on my part to turn back when they told me, because those people might possibly be members of the evil organization Prof. Oak warned me about. Instead, I tried to spend some time in Viridian City's public library because I wasn't in the mood for training first thing in the morning. There, I met another trainer named Gary, apparently Prof. Oak's grandson. He can be very arrogant and reckless, because he actually challenged those two people blocking the entrance to Viridian Forest when I refused to accept his challenge. I got worried so I went after him. If I didn't, Arceus knows what they'll do to him.
When everything was settled, I was finally able to traverse Viridian Forest. There, I met Vladimir. He just attacked us without any warning and it was lucky that I managed to catch him before he can do more damage. I also met two other trainers. They're actually brothers. I don't know their real names, but they call themselves the Samurai and the Spartan. Samurai called me a novice, but I ended up beating him twice in a row when he challenged me to a battle. Vladimir evolved into a Kakuna as a result. Spartan threatened me with a fake sword and challenged me to a battle as well, but Geronimo managed to beat his Scyther, too. I really thought I could traverse Viridian Forest in peace after that encounter, but all of us got chased by a swarm of Beedrill. It was fortunate that Spartan still got his Scizor so I was able to escape unscathed.
After resting my Pokémon, I met Flint, the Gym Leader of Pewter City. Apparently, I have to challenge him in a Gym battle in order for me to earn a badge, just like what Daddy said on my first day as a trainer. The battle shall take place today, so I need to get prepared.
By the way, Geronimo's newfound talent is playing the ukulele. I was just as surprised as everyone else when we found out that he can play it properly on his first try.
That would be it for now. Forrest might call me for breakfast anytime soon. And besides, I'm pretty excited about my first Gym battle today against Flint. Best foot forward, then.
Arndolfr put back his journal and pen in his backpack, changed into his travelling clothes, and went out of the bedroom.
He was greeted by the rest of the children when he reached the dining room.
"Hmm, looks like the kids are pretty enthusiastic about the battle today, don't you think so, Dolph?" Flint piped up while preparing plates for breakfast.
"Yes, Flint," Arndolfr replied. "I'm pretty excited about it, myself."
All of them ate their breakfast in a lively manner, which helped Arndolfr's spirits up and eased up the tension all around them. But right after the meal, Flint mentioned something to Arndolfr.
