Jason Todd panted as he ran from the thugs running after him. A glint in the corner of his eye caught his attention.

He sucked in a panicked breath when he saw each one of the three thugs holding a knife, its sharp edge glinting off the rays of moonlight.

Now is not the time to panic, Jason told himself as he ran into a tiny alley.

Shit.

It was a dead-end.

Jason scanned his surroundings frantically as he looked for an exit – even a tiny one would do! – or a hiding place. His breathing became faster and faster as his ears registered the thundering footsteps (of doom, it seemed to Jason) come closer and closer.

Seeing no other exit, Jason's mouth pulled into a grim line. He tried to accept the truth that he was going to die.

As the shadows of the thugs grew larger and larger by the second, Jason felt his end coming nearer and nearer.

Just as they were about to come upon him a tiny Psst! sound caught his ears.

Jason spun around and saw a tiny door open in the brick wall – something he hadn't noticed before. From there, a tiny girl was waving at him from the shadows.

He quickly ran to the place and dived into the doorway – a desperate move, to make sure the thugs didn't see him.

Jason and the girl sat there silently, in the darkness, as they waited silently for the strangers to leave.

Finally, they gave up.

Jason released a breath he didn't even know he was holding.

"Are you okay?" he jumped when he heard his companion say that. He forgot she was even there.

Jason winced as he bumped into something as he tried to move. He grunted. "Is there a light switch here?"

He felt her move in the darkness and suddenly, the lights were on. Jason shielded his eyes from the sudden brightness, till the stinging subsided.

"You're bleeding." The girl beside him suddenly said.

Jason looked at the wound on his leg with disinterest. "It's fine," he said, as he pulled his torn trousers on it.

"No, its not," was the fierce reply. The girl – she was about 5-6 years younger than him – was glaring up at him.

Jason sighed. Seemed like she was one of the stubborn ones. "All right, I'll let you patch me up if you tell me your name," he bargained.

The girl pursed her lips. "If you also tell me yours."

"Fine."

After Jason's leg was covered in a slightly grimy bandage, the girl said, "Marinette."

Jason startled from what he was doing. "What?"

"Marinette," she repeated. "That's my name. What's yours?"

"Jason."

Marinette smiled at Jason as he walked into the hatch. She crawled through the low-ceilinged room. "Did you find anything?"

Jason grinned at her eagerness. "Yep. I managed to steal a few pieces of bread."

She beamed at him. That was definitely more than what she would have gotten if she was alone.

He ruffled her hair and divided the bread that he stole.

Marinette blinked in surprise when she saw Jason give her more bread. "What are you doing?" she frowned.

Jason stared at her like she was insane. "I'm giving the bread to you?"

Marinette shook her head at him. "No, I'm asking why you're giving me more bread?"

He grinned at her like it was nothing. "Because you're my little sister."

"Little sister?" she echoed, shocked.

"Yeah," he shrugged like he didn't say the nicest thing ever to her.

Marinette beamed at him and tackled him into a hug.

Jason nearly dropped the breads he was holding. "Wh-what?" he stuttered.

"And you're my big brother," said Marinette.

"Wait...really?" said Jason dumbly.

"Yeah! If I'm you're little sister, then you're my big brother!"

Jason smiled at her – a real one. "Then, you're my pixie," he decided.

"Pixie?" asked Marinette curiously.

Jason smirked at her. "Pixie. Because you're adorable and tiny. Like a pixie."

"Then you're my bluejay. Bluejay, get it? Blue-jay."

Jason smiled at her softly. "Yeah, I get it. Pixie."
