Rey:

It's an hour until dawn, and my room still smells like incense.

My maids are styling my hair so that it's down, and my dress is so simple compared to what I'd wear to someone else's ascension.

But this is my Grandfather, who was a simple man, and I can barely take the time for myself to choose out a more elaborate gown.

My maids choose a dark onyx crown and place black netting between it's curves to cover my eyes in fashioned mourning.

I hear a knock at my door, and Kylo enters.

He's also wearing black, and he turns to the maids.

"Can we have a few minutes?" I murmur to them, and they dip into curtsies before leaving.

He takes my hand, and rubs his thumb over the top of my knuckles.

"You look beautiful." He says, trying to comfort me.

I crack the smallest smile. "You clean up nicely."

He shrugged. "I figured the king father deserves one last send off before he's.."

"You can say it, you know." I murmur as I sit down and I attach gold clasps onto my dress. The clasps attach a midnight cape onto my shoulders.

He sits next to me, and shakes his head. "I've said it so many times from the age of 5 that I'm just so over that word."

I bow my head, and twist the dress into my hands.

"I just can't believe he's gone. I wanted him to see me marry the man who was going to be king of the country he protected for so long."

Kylo bows his head. "I understand what you mean. Before my father died, I was supposed to marry some noble woman to elevate my family, and then he died, and my fiancée thought I was a bad omen and commited suicide. She'd have rather died than married me."

"Oh my god." I say breathlessly, and he nods.

"I told you I lost everyone who's ever cared about me."

I take his hands. "You haven't."

He looks at me, and I crack a small smile.

"I care about you. And I'm not going anywhere, not if you go."

He cups my cheek, and my stomach churns with butterflies.

But I know how much I want this.

I'd been wearing white my whole life, and now I'm so done with wearing the color.

His lips barely even brush mine when a knock at the door sends us scrambling away from one another, and Kylo rockets to his feet.

Mother enters, Father's arm supporting her around her waist, and her eyes are rimmed with red.

She's lost her last family member from when she was a little girl.

"You look lovely, Rey." She says softly, and I nod.

"You do too, Mother."

She wears something similar to mine, knowing how simple her father was.

Father's brows furrow at seeing Kylo but he says nothing about it, and as we walk down the gardens to the river near the falls, I see Markel's wife on his own arm.

Most of our court has joined us and a minister steps forward, dressed in dark blue.

Kylo:
