Feng Min's footsteps echoed through the halls of the school. Her heavy breathing made it hard to hide as she moved. She didn't care about hiding, currently, all she cared about was getting the hell away from... whatever that was! The young girl was panicking, simply sprinting wildly until she slid open a door and closed it behind her, panting heavily as she stepped away from the door. She put her hands over her mouth, forcing herself to breathe quieter as her wide eyes scanned every inch of the door. She didn't want the door to open again or rattle but the sounds of that... that thing..! They passed by and she was in the clear.
Feng waited a suffocatingly long moment before letting her hands fall and she sat down on the cot before looking around. This was definitely a nurse's office. Her eyes traced the posters and information on the wall, looking at everything before she determinedly got up and started searching through the cabinets. Even though there wasn't any clue of what might help her, she was looking anyway. She was completely unsure what would help her in this situation but if she had to guess she would guess salt.
Salt would be nice, block off the doors and windows and try and rest until daylight. That would be ideal but her worries and wants were torn from her chest as the cupboards revealed nothing of current, good, use. She started to panic as footsteps started approaching through the hall. She stumbled back onto one of the beds and lifted her feet, covering her mouth with both of her hands. She felt her heart race, her head pounded with fear and she tried to stop her tears from rolling. The footsteps stopped and she tried to quiet her breathing further as the shadow behind the door reached out.
She scurried suddenly, grabbing the nearest candlestick and holding it in front of her, on her feet and shaking like a leaf. The door opened, quickly, not like they were trying to scare her but ambush her. She stood her ground, Feng Min remembered all those times she believed that standing her ground was the best option and winning. The young girl grits her teeth and promised herself she wouldn't die here.
She saw who it was and set the candlestick on the bed. "Jeff..!" She rushed up to him and threw her arms around his neck after he closed the sliding door. He smiled and hugged her back as they were reunited. Their reunion was short-lived as the haunting growl of something echoed through the halls nearby.
Jeff looked behind him for a moment and Feng could hear his heart speed up, beating faster and louder than anything she'd heard from another person. He grabbed Feng Min and quickly pulled her to the side of the room, hiding them both against the wall.
The moonlight from across the hall was just enough for them to witness a short figure passing by. It had a small bounce to each of its steps, spry, hunting... Feng couldn't pull her eyes away and Jeff just held her head close to his chest. It passed by at the same pace it came and Jeff started whispering to the other.
"Here's a plan: let's get the hell to the lobby of this damn school and leave."
"And leave?" She asked sarcastically before she was swatted in the head. She snickered but nodded, "good plan, and leave."
After another long moment, Jeff dared to reach over and crack open the door. It slid silently and he thanked God for that. After a moment, they were sprinting the opposite way from where the ghost was. Both were quick on their feet but neither particularly quiet. Their sprint lasted a bit, rushed footsteps down the stairs.. the stairs.. more stairs...
"What the fuck!?" Feng shouted after a moment, hearing loud thumping a few flights above them. "Weren't we on the second floor!?"
Jeff nodded, puffing slightly. "Just keep moving!"
Feng took that advice to heart and eventually they made it to the bottom. Jeff banged hard against the plain wall in front of them, blocking their way out. He grit his teeth, they were cornered at the bottom of a staircase.
Feng turned around to face the thing. She couldn't believe her eyes. It wasn't even human. Not remotely. Yet it stood on two.... appendages and had no torso. It had hips and then there was a long neck connected to the stretched skin, its hip bones protruding its muscle and breaking skin. Feng could've been sick but she didn't have it in her.
Jeff turned and saw it. Its goat-like head had a long, dark, snout. No horns but large ears that they had originally mistaken for long hair. It made them sick in their own ways.
Neither noticed that their hands intertwined at that moment, watching the things neck twist from left to right like a snake.
"Well... It was nice..." Feng started.
Jeff couldn't help but chuckle and squeeze her hand, "I'll see you at the campfire... okay?"
"Yeah. Thanks..."
