I only slept a few hours that night. I wanted to savor every second I had left in life. But when I did sleep, it was filled with unpleasant nightmares. I dreamed that I was on Asgard, surrounded by my people. Of course, they were furious with me for not trying to help them. Then there were Tony and Peter. They laughed at me for being a horrible princess.
It was still dark when I woke up. The clock read 5:50 AM. I got out of bed and stared out my window, secretly hoping that Peter would show.
I nearly jumped out of my skin when my door opened.
"Where is she?" Morgan whispered.
"Turn on the light!" Sage hissed.
The sudden brightness temporarily blinded me.
"What're you two doing up so early?" I asked.
"We wanted to say goodbye to you," Sage explained.
"I'm not leaving until this afternoon," I laughed.
"Yeah, it's-" Sage began.
"Shhh!" Morgan cut off.
They both ran and hugged me.
"I love you, sissy," Sage whispered.
"I love you girls," I smiled.
"Don't let anyone else do your hair while you're gone!" Morgan ordered, sticking out her pinky.
I intertwined my littlest finger with hers.
"I promise," I whispered. "Now go back to bed before someone finds you,"
They each hugged my waist again before scampering away. I sighed and finally fell into a dreamless sleep.
I was usually woken by a bustle of noise, but today there was none.
"Oh no," I muttered.
I ran to Morgan's room and shoved the door open.
"No, no!" I cried.
I checked Sage's room and found no one. Tony and Pepper's rooms were also empty.
"Tony?" I called.
I heard a glass clank in the kitchen. I silently rushed down the stairs with my hands raised. I stuck to the wall, trying to see who was in our house.
My panic slightly faded when I saw Tony sitting at the counter, staring into oblivion. I kept my hands raised just in case.
"Tony? Where is everyone?" I asked.
He didn't flinch when I spoke. He didn't even look up from the thing he was reading.
"Pepper's gone," He said, emotionlessly.
"Oh, god," I cried.
This was my fault.
"I can get her back, Tony. I promise!" I exclaimed.
He slammed the stack of papers on the table, startling me.
"She's not coming back, Kaity! She doesn't love me anymore!" He yelled.
"What? What do you mean?" I blurted.
He threw the letter on the table. I cautiously picked it up and began reading.
I'm sorry, Tony. I no longer feel the way I used to about you. I really don't know what happened; the thought of spending another day with you repulses me. I left you with your daughter, but I will be taking Morgan and Sage. I wish you two the best, but I think it'd be better if we didn't see you.
