As promised, Cassidy returned the next day, climbing out of the cave to be greeted with shouts of joy from the children who ran over to greet her.
"She's back! Everybody, she came back!" Fiona squealed, running over hand in hand with Claire and hugging Cassie around the legs. "Of course I did! I couldn't stay away from you guys could I." She laughed out, patting their heads.
Emma and Olive joined them, already rambling about what they could do today. "Ok ok girls I'm in, let me go say hi to your headmistress first and then I promise we can hang out." Cassie said when she had a second to interject between their plans.
She walked to the house, saying hello to the boys playing outside, some of them ran up to talk to her for a bit and Millard took her by surprise with an invisible hug. The door was open and she went in to search for the woman she couldn't get out of her head.
"Hey." She said simply, leaning against the doorway, when she found her in the kitchen.
Alma whirled around, surprise turning into a smile when she saw who was there. "Cassie! I'm glad you're back, we were wondering if you would be." She said, setting down her cup and walking over to her.
"I promised didn't I- plus, I wanted to." She shrugged back. "The children have already roped me into their plans but I thought I should come say hello first."
"Yes the children have been buzzing about you all night, go have fun with them. Before you do though- would you join me for tea after lunch?" Alma asked as she leaned on the wall next to her.
"Yeah sure, what do you want to talk about?" She said curiously. "Oh just.. get to know you I suppose." Came the reply with a small wave of her hand.
Cassie agreed and left her with a smile as she tried to tamp down her excitement for alone time with the fascinating woman.
She found Emma and Olive waiting by the porch and joined them on a walk around the garden, chatting with them. They got to the topic of peculiarities, they had shown her theirs already and were now curious about her's.
"So what can you do Cassie?" Olive asked as she pulled her glove back on. "Well, I can transform objects and creatures into others or just edit them slightly."
"Really? Can you show us?" Olive asked, Emma chiming in with a "Oh yes please!"
Cassie picked up two rocks from the ground and held them in each of her hands. When she opened them two bracelets lay inside, both gold chains with crystal charms. A light blue one for Emma and a pink one for Olive.
The girls gasped and took theirs when she handed them over. "Wow! These are so pretty, thank you Cassie. Your peculiarity seems so fun." Emma giggled while they put them on and thanked her.
"Your welcome girls, and yes it is pretty fun, comes in handy too since I always seem to forget things I need with me." She laughed back as they continued walking.
They were close to the house by then, completing their tour of the garden and they ran off to do their chores as Cassie looked over and saw Alma watching her curiously from a bench. She flushed slightly from being caught as Cassie made her way over to her.
"Hello again." She waved when she was standing by her. "Hello Cassie, I saw you showing my girls your talent. I find myself wondering what it is, you were facing away from here. Mind showing me?" Alma asked, and how could she deny the woman anything?
Cassie sat down next to her and grabbed a stick that was by her feet. She held it between her fingers and Alma watched as it morphed into a flower, then a book, and finally a silver necklace with a dark blue bird charm.
