The months passed and seasons changed outside the loop, which Cassie saw on the days she'd leave it to respond to her messages and keep up with work.
However inside the loop everything stayed the same. The same day on repeat, playing with the children, helping with chores, and being utterly in love with Alma Peregrine.
Yes, Cassie was perfectly happy with every day of her life being the same. That is until it no longer was. The change came when Alma became withdrawn, walking around with a worried expression that she masked with a fake smile should anyone question it.
By the end of the day she couldn't take it anymore and as they lay in bed together that night she asked, "Alma? I can tell something has been bothering you lately, what's wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong love, stop worrying." Alma hummed. "Please, I can tell when you lie, talk to me. You can tell me anything." Cassie begged, even more concerned after noticing her girlfriend lying, something she never did to her.
"I felt something this morning and I went flying outside the loop where I saw Abe's grandson arriving on the island. He looks so much like him- I almost thought Abe had come back until I remembered he would be an old man by now." Alma sighed, unable to lie to Cassie any longer. "I know it likely means he is dead and though I understood that would come at some point, I was not ready for it to truly happen."
Cassie pulled the woman into her embrace and rubbed circles on her back and she spoke. "Thank you for telling me Alma. I'm sorry that you've lost him though maybe you'll have a chance to meet this boy now, Abe's legacy."
Soon enough that came true and a boy with dark hair and blue eyes came stumbling through the cave she herself had come to this enchanting place through.
It was strange but also amusing to watch the confusion and wonderment on his face as he met the children and learned of the existence of Peculiars. Cassie wondered if she had also looked like that in those first days.
He fit in nicely with their group and seemed to be a kind, albeit slightly awkward, person. She could see the sparks flying between him and Emma. Yet another parallel between them that she noticed, again wondering if she had been the same way when she met Alma.
Cassie saw him sitting on the couch looking down at his phone in frustration and went over to sit by him. "Hey Jake, what's up?"
"Hi- Cassie right? I'm just trying to figure out why my phone won't work." Jake explained, giving her a slight smile in greeting. "A phone is like- "
"Oh I know what a phone is, and don't bother trying to make it work. I gave up on that after a few days." Cassie laughed
"You do? But how- wait are you from, from my time?" He asked hesitantly.
"Yeah I am. I entered the loop about half a year ago." She answered, settling back on the couch.
They talked for a while longer, Jake being relieved to find someone who could relate to his experience with 'going back in time' and she told him how she'd come to find the loop and stay there.
Cassie hoped he'd stay with them, the boy seeming like a good addition to their family, though she understood the challenge of leaving behind their world quite well.
A few days later their world shifted again when Miss Avocet crashed into the house, hurt and stuck in bird form. Cassie stayed up with Alma, bringing her tea and making sure she ate while the raven haired woman nursed her friend back to health. When Miss Avocet shifted back to a human she dropped the news of Hollows hunting them.
Everything went by so quickly, readying the children to run and trying to figure out where they would go. Jake left but he came back to tell them a Hollow may be on the island in the present. Unfortunately, he brought Baron with him.
